The Jack Breslin Student Events Center was named in honor of Jack Breslin, native of Battle Creek, who served his alma mater, Michigan State University, as distinguished student leader, honored athlete, top administrator, and relentless advocate. The personification of the Spartan spirit, his strong and innovative leadership played a pivotal role in the growth and development of the nation's land-grant university he loved so much. Jack was one of the first administrators, who in 1969-1970 thought of the idea of a multi-purpose student facility. He was the leading force in the conceptual design of an all events building at MSU. (Prints of such a design were completed in January, 1970, which featured such design innovations as a hydraulic rising press deck and all of things an extra "practice gymnasium." Designs also included a dedicated space for men and women performers). Jack Breslin was the holder of many administrative roles and recipient of numerous honors for his selfless public service and civic pride, he will always be known and remembered by the title bestowed upon him by freshmen and governors, by journalists and university presidents, "Mr. MSU."
