Subject: DMB in Atlanta

Well I couldn't make the show Sunday, but some of my friends drove the 5 hours
from Gainesville. They don't have much in the way of details, other than
the show was outside at Masquerade Park, Jellyroll and Everything were the
opening bands, and Dave played a little under two hours. I asked them about
the songs, they said he introduced "Say Goodbye" as one coming off their new
CD, which he said would be out Sep. 27. My friends recognized most of the tunesbut did say there were 6-7 tunes they didn't recognize, although they don't
know much more than R2T and Recently. Reading this post, I realize there's
not much good info in it. Oh well... They had a good time--I was jealous I
couldn't make it. Any other netters from Atlanta there that can expound??

Brian

P.S. Alex, if you're out there, will you be at the Everything show in
Gainesville Friday?

Subject: DMB in Winston-Salem

Hey all! This is my first message Im writing on this mailing list, so I
send you all a hearty hello! Anyhow, I just got tickets to see Dave here
in W-S, NC at Ziggys. Im excited because its a VERY small place- smaller
even than Trax in Charlottesville where I used to go see Dave every
Tuesday night. I figure that because he's getting so big, it will become
a rare event to see him at small clubs. Anyhow, does anyone have any
words to the wise on how to go about taping the show? Do you need any
equipment? or can you just give a blank tape to someone? Ive never done
it before... thanks for your time!

Subject: Directions to Browns Island.... (fwd)

Thought this might be of interest to some people. If you are coming 95
north or south look for the same 195 Powhite parkway exit, if yu are
coming 64 east, take the 5th street downtown exit, and go straight till
you hit the river, turn left and you shoulf find it...

You are coming in to Richmond via 64 east. As you near town you will see
three signs I-95 north to DC (left lane), 64 East to Williamsburg (Center
lane) and 195 south to Powhite parkway (Right lane), you want 195. Take
this and you will go under a few bridges, you will then see 195 south
Downtown expressway and Powhite parkway signs. Bear left and take the
Downtown expressway (It costs 35 cents but suck it up) After the toll you
will take the 7th and 9th street exit. When you get off you want to take
your first left (browns island is to the right, but you cant turn right
there) basically go around the block (making sure you don't get back on
the interstate and the next corner) and turn right where you where
originally. There will be little brown Browns Island signs and a bunch of
people. There is parking evrywhere down there.

Subject: if you want to get to brown's island, pay attention.

i noticed a couple of serious errors in boofy's directions, and thought
i'd point them out.
this is what boofy actually said:
>You are coming in to Richmond via 64 east. As you near town you will see
>three signs I-95 north to DC (left lane), 64 East to Williamsburg (Center
>lane) and 195 south to Powhite parkway (Right lane), you want 195. Take
>this and you will go under a few bridges, you will then see 195 south
>Downtown expressway and Powhite parkway signs. Bear left and take the
>Downtown expressway (It costs 35 cents but suck it up) After the toll you
>will take the 7th and 9th street exit. When you get off you want to take
>your first left (browns island is to the right, but you cant turn right
>there) basically go around the block (making sure you don't get back on
>the interstate and the next corner) and turn right where you where
>originally. There will be little brown Browns Island signs and a bunch of
>people. There is parking evrywhere down there.

this is what boofy was trying to say, and the corrections are in
caps and set off with underlines:

You are coming in to Richmond via 64 _WEST_. As you near town you will see
three signs for I-95 north to DC (left lane), 64 East_/95 SOUTH_ to
Williamsburg/_PETERSBURG_ (Center lane) and 195 south to Powhite parkway
(Right lane), you want 195. Take this (the far right lane, that is) and you
will go under a few bridges (_SO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE, LOOK FOR A SET
OF RAILROAD TRACKS BETWEEN NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND_), you will then
see 195 south Downtown expressway and Powhite parkway signs. Bear
***left*** _BEAR RIGHT!!!, OR YOU'LL WIND UP IN SOUTHSIDE RICHMOND PAYING
75 CENT TOLLS AND SEARCHING OUT BOOFY WITH A SHOTGUN and take the
_Downtown expressway_ (It costs 35 cents but suck it up) After the toll
you will take the 7th and 9th street exit. When you get off you want to
take your first left (browns island is to the right, but you cant turn
right there) basically go around the block (making sure you don't get
back on the interstate at the next corner) and turn right where you
were originally. There will be little brown Browns Island signs and a
bunch of people. There is parking everywhere down there.

he is completely right when he says that you will wind up at the exact
same intersection that you got off at, but that's the way it is. also,
the first three times i ever went to brown's island i followed those
little brown signs and i've never gotten lost down there. (this includes
before i knew where richmond was, much less how to get around in the
god awful place).

clare, hows abouts proofreading us both. you know the area pretty well.
(i hope..;)

now, you punks better be sure to enjoy the show, because i'm going to
be stuck on my ass in harrisonburg because i'm too broke to get there.

Subject: hey i was close....

So I made a few mistakes, when you live here its so easy i forget all the
signs...
right now Rick and I are having a debate as to the first correction, I
still think you are taking 64 east into richmond from the west side of
the state (ie charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Lexington) anyways, the main
part is finding 195 south... I'm sorry I triend to send everyone into the
so-called evil southside but don't chase me with shotguns, I tried...

Subject: Browns Island directions

O.K.
so clare has to do it the simple way and give the correct directions the
first time....anyway....
I notice a post asking for the Dave chords file and I had to ask myslef,
do we have one??? I know we've got a lyrics file, and I've seen a few
song posts with chords, but is there anything coherent. I know there are
a few axe players out there (myself included) who can bust out a dave
tune or two. Maybe we should get this thing started or sometin. Any
suggestions????

Subject: 7/28/94 short thoughts

irving plaza is small, hot, and by the middle of the first set, i had little
room to breath.

still, it was a great show, but it was one set! granted, one really long set
(i'm guessing about an hour & a half), but it was a bit of a disappointment.

Anyway, for the curious, I didn't write a setlist, but I have a basic
recollection of what they played:

one sweet world, satellite, billies, jane, best of what's around, say
goodbye, dancing nancies, typical situation, warehouse, Jimi thing (where it
sounded like the lyrics were 'tunnel called jimi'), watchtower (set closer,
really really good).

e: pay 4, ants

overall a very tight show, everyone was pretty much playing great. The bass
was WAY WAY too loud, and the overall level really kinda hurt my ears... next
time ear plugs may be a necessity. humph.

Subject: how to get the tab file (or maybe not...)

for now, the only way i know of to get the tab file is to have some
kind soul mail it to you, and i am a kind soul, i just don't have it.

perhaps ben?

also, after getting into a debate with ben(with somewhat surreal language)
on the validity of smurfs existance (actually, it was one of those debates
where we both agreed that they do exist, we just argued for the sake of
arguing) i find myself wondering, do smurfs die, and if they do, who do
you think will get to replace papa smurf's as head honcho when he retires
to the great smurf in the sky.

i say it's farmer smurf.

"eat, drink, and be smurfy, 'cause tomorrow we smurf...."

I DIDN'T RAISE MY HAND!!!!

well, whateva, i'll do it. isn't there already someone doing the chords
file?

whashisname? oh yeah... here we go, i found it:

gsp2m@uva.pcmail.virginia.edu
Shawn

Isn't shawn Chords File Chairman, CEO, and Intern?

If not, sureeeee I'll do it. But it'll be on hold a while, as Monday I'm
heading to that weirdo shaped continent where no one can agree on what
language to speak (and one place where they don't like you if you don't speak
their crappy language!). I'll be back around August 20th or so, but possibly
as late as September 1st.

>arguing) i find myself wondering, do smurfs die, and if they do, who do

No.
Foolish question.

>you think will get to replace papa smurf's as head honcho when he retires

He doesn't die, he abdicates like Nicholas II in Russia. Ohmigod how did I
know that. Ew.

anyway...
he abdicates his throne. not because of bread riots, but instead because he
just gets bored. one of those crappy little smurfs takes over.

they suck. they don't deserve it. especially the little girl smurf with the
nasty voice. someone kill her. dave should write a song about the smurfs.
the opening act type of woman at irving plaza had a song about the
superfriends or some other dumb show you stupid 20somethings (and
19somethings) know about.

humph. i'll take gi joe over the mighty morphin rangers filled to the brim
with power ANY DAY.

>"eat, drink, and be smurfy, 'cause tomorrow we smurf...."

"...cause we're tripping smurfies"

hey, these are easy! how about this one?

"Smurf in, Smurf out... I'm leaving"

how true it is. later guys.
