Hey guys. I just wanted to keep you all up on how the archive is coming.

Here are the files we've got, and then a brief news type of thing.

Next month, I'll be setting up an automated mail thing where you can send
a message constructed in a certain way and in response you can receive the
faq, lyrics file, chords, or whatever. all without using ftp; just
regular old e-mail.

For now, I'm focusing on collecting instances of dave talk. Scott
jump-started the archive last week (it's the sounds folder!) and today I
added two more (from 11/20/93 and 10/8/94). I have a BUNCH from 10/30/93
to do tomorrow. Basically, i'll just keep doing this, until we run out
of disk space (well, Netspace guru Lee Silverman will probably stop me
before we ACTUALLY run out of disk space, but . . . ).

If you would like to contribute something to the archive, you must do two
things (in this order please!):
1. Write to me telling me this, and wait 'til you hear back from me.
2. Either e-mail whatever it is to me, or ftp it to

Let's see, what else?
Oh, yeah, if you are interested contributing sounds to the dave talk
archive (and please DO!-- I have a bunch of tapes but not enough!), there
1. You need to know the date of the show, and venue and stuff like that.
2. You need to know how to record your sounds onto your computer.
3. You need to follow the contribution guidelines above.

That's all, really.

And again, I strongly advocate learning enough about computers to get
your hands on this stuff. But not learning it from ME! Ask around at
your school or internet provider.

Madison fans?

pcharrig@students.wisc.edu Tue Dec 6 20:53:01 1994

This is my first post to minarets, so let me start out by asking if there
are any Madison DMB fans out there? I only have three shows, and would
love to trade locally if possible. I hate to grovel, but if anyone has
some of the recent DMB opening up for Phish, I would love to get my paws on
it! Well, if grovelling is uncool, what is the right way to get tapes? I
need my Boyd!!

Re: V-Day show tapers??????

STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Tue Dec 6 21:02:16 1994

For all of us out here that are not fortunate to go the v-day/dmb & rich. orch.
show, will anyone out there be taping, and if so, i'm sure someone will tree it
(i think everyone on this net will want a copy of the show!)....Anyway, I'm
just curious to wht will happen.

alex

well, the question is not "is anybody going to (try to) tape?"
that question is EXTREMELY moot. perhaps dumber than asking

the question is "are we allowed to tape the richmond symphony."

i think it's very, very, very early to start worrying about who
is taping that show. we need to worry if we _can_ tape that show.

i'm thinking that this may be one show where we aren't going to
get, or for that matter want, a soundboard patch.

V-Day Planning...

wl1o+@andrew.cmu.edu Tue Dec 6 21:46:17 1994

Hey all,
the DMB and live tape virus. I'm anxious help spread Dave's music far
and wide. There have been a few posts here over the past week by people
anxiously asking about a potential V-Day tree. I know this is really
early to be talking about this, but I have a feeling that everyone (and
I mean everyone) will want a copy so we can't be too organized about
this. I will be attending and taping (on DAT) the V-Day show and would
love to organize a tree. If anyone has organized a tree before and has
some advice, please get in touch with me. Please don't send any
requests yet, I will make many announcements when the time gets nearer.
Take it easy, y'all.

Atlanta Gathering

@Xenon.Stanford.EDU:malachi@leland.stanford.edu Tue Dec 6 21:57:22 1994

before the show on Dec. 27, so peruse these ideas at your leisure, but
PLEASE get back to me with SUGGESTIONS!!

me a message with ATLANTA GATHERING in the subject to get final details if
AMZENDEL@unca.edu

Thomas W Junker junketw@mail.auburn.edu
WALTON, GEOFFREY REE SATELITE@MUSIC.CC.UGA.EDU

1) Everyone seemed to like the idea of meeting at a park pretty early (the
show starts at 8:00, and I'll bet that everyone wants to be
on time). Piedmont Park is a pretty cool place (the Grapes played there at
Potfest '94 or '93, I can't remember which (hee hee)), and it's pretty
close to the Fox and the rest of downtown, but parking can be a problem.
Anyway, it's a big place, so we'd probably meet at the stage and trade,
listen to music, and get psyched about the show. It would be a good place
for everyone to get to know each other a little bit, IMHO. I would suggest
meeting at maybe 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

2) It would be cool to eat dinner at a semi-nice restaurant, perhaps
something like what has been suggested for the V-Day show gathering.
Underground Atlanta would be a great place for this, but I don't know where
it is exactly in Atlanta. If it's close to the Fox, it's perfect.
Otherwise, I'm open to suggestions for other places.

3) Several people have mentioned trying to find a hotel near MARTA. This
would be nice for the out-of-towners as well as for partying after the
show. Once we find a suitable hotel (fairly inexpensive), we'll worry
about reservations.

4) Lastly, I plan on going to the B'ham show on the 28th, and I'm sure
others might want to also, so we could definitely road trip there, and if
enough netters will be there, we could hang out some more.

BTW, the quicker we finalize the details, the better the chance that the
band will join us, so please HELP, even if it's just an approval or
disapproval!

the question is "are we allowed to tape the richmond symphony."

excellent question rick

i'm thinking that this may be one show where we aren't going to
get, or for that matter want, a soundboard patch.

i for one think a well made audience tape would capture the symphony show
much better than a board could hope to. chances are, if a board patch is
available (which, my guess is it will not be), it will be a highly
irregular mix. the venue has great acoustics which could be very nicely
duplicated with a nice set of mics.

So who's sportin' the Neumans?

atlanta gathering

gt0407c@prism.gatech.edu Wed Dec 7 00:20:40 1994

Hi All,

I just wanted to include my two cents worth about the Atlanta gathering.
While underground is cool and all (actually, I'm not that fond of it) it's
not that close to the Fox. I think Malachi's idea about piedmont park is
a good one though, provided everyone can find it, and then find the group
in the park.

For dinner, though...there are several very cool restaraunts near the
Fox that would be a cool setting in which to gather. The Vortex is one
block west and about six or seven blocks north of the Fox and is one of
my favorites in Atlanta (for atmosphere and food)...also they serve almost
every domestic and foreign beer you can imagine. The crowd there is also
pretty cool...really laid back. If you like kinda dark bars/restaurants
with semi-loud music and very cool atmosphere and the added bonus of great
eats, this would be a good place. Also there is the BridgeTowne Grill, which
is even closer to the Fox (about five blocks north). Although I haven't
been to this one (there are a few in Atlanta) the others have excellent
food and cool atmosphere, so I trust it will be just as good. There are
also the standards like Houlihans, which is practically across the street
from the Fox. If anybody else out there is from Atlanta, give me (actually,
give Malachi, his address is malachi@leland.Stanford.EDU) more suggestions
on good eating establishments. Twenty days till atlanta. Later.

Much Grass,
Shug

1.) How does the DMB go about putting a song together. Do they just sit
around and jam or does one of the members come up with something and bring it
tothe rest of the band.
2.) When someone was talking about the video of WWYS, is the John Popper's
Harmonica also in the video verson.
3.) To whoever is doing the rarities tape, I was wondering if the songs from
the post HORDE jam with the Samples and the Jam at lexington with Phish were
going to be on there. The se are two great rarities and it would be great
additions to this tape. I may be late but anyway.

if anyone might want to trade. I am looking for some specific shows.

i may have access to a mac scanner here at jmu (but don't hold me to that.)
if i can get a few pic's scanned, could they go in the archive for veiwing
with people who have discovered the wonders and simplicity of a machine
designed around its keyboard and its user instead of its motherboard.

i know not what i'm doing. so if someone says 'yes' i'll need a fair amount
of instructions on how to get them off of an apple disc, onto a vms mainframe,
and then across the internet to you. i may just want to send a disc, actually.

"Jason & Alison" - a band!

sseremet@uvm-gen.EMBA.UVM.EDU Wed Dec 7 10:55:11 1994

Hey everybody-
be interested. Last night I went to see "Live" in Plattsburg, NY and a
band called Jason & Alison opened. I think it's fairly obvious how many
band members there are, but the two of them were really great. Jason
plays acoustic guitar and sings (has a cool, but NOT terribly different
sounding voice), and Alison plays a CELLO - yes, a CELLO. Their tunes
remind me of Smashing Pumpkins "Disarm" but they're much more mellow and
his voice is not so "alternative."
CD at the show - so I don't know if you'll be able to find it in
stores(They're on some small indie label) - but do yourselves a favor and
check them out. They Jam!

P.S. Someone write me back if they know anything more!

V-day tapeage

mus4rlm@cabell.vcu.edu Wed Dec 7 11:28:50 1994

hey all.

Richmond Symphony ethics say " no cameras or recording devices of any
kind allowed...." uh-oh..i'm sure Bagby will record it and will do
all in his power to give us the priveledge also...however, i am music
student in Richmond and frequent the halls of the symphon...sooo.. DMB
playing with them has been in the works for about TWO years now..thats two
years of organizing, writing out the music,practice....

so what i'm thinking is this is a big deal...or maybe they just plan
WAY ahead for any concert...anyway i just have a sneaking suspicion
that there may be a Compact Disc in the making here....who knows...if
there is no CD coming out and they also say no recording...there is
always a way to beat the system...we all have our separate connections...
branch out and we'll definately have a killer Bagby to pass around...
...i'm talking Revolution......you make the bread,i got the A.K.47....
no, i'm not into violence...i just know this historic concert will not
slip thru THESE fingers...and info i get from snooping around in the
musical domain of my school...will be passed to the Minaretters for
further discussion...yes, i know this is early to contemplate..but
we might as well prepare ourselves to be ready....

o.k. enuff freakin' out for this cat. PEACE.

I know I know, yet another NON-dmb post.

Bone Pony is an accoustic band (mandolin, guitar, elec. bass, drummer with
vintage drums). They played last night at Ziggy's (free show). They are
the most impressive band I've seen since Dave Matthews. They're from
Nashville, and if you get a chance, go see em.

Vday road trip-

axvann@minerva.cis.yale.edu Wed Dec 7 13:18:44 1994

So there I was, listening to the Yale Symphony orchestra playing a little
Mendelssohn, when I realize, DMB with the symphony is not something I
want to miss. So I'm thinking of a crazy road trip. Leave tues morning
after swim practice around 9, stop at my home in Maryland around 2:30 for
some quick lunch, and get down to Richmond around 5:30. Then turn around
and come back after the show- or at least pretty soon afterwords. Clearly,
I'd need a driving
partner here, so's I can sleep, read, eat while rotating driving duties.
Now I'm the kind of guy who's more fascinated with the journey aspect
than the destination, even though this particular destination would be
outstanding. It's the challenge of it all that gets me. If you are a
like- minded soul who resides somewhere along the upper part of the
northeast corridor, has a significant other as understanding as mine, and
would actually go
for something as crazy as this, let me know and we'll see what we can do.
And if you are someone with access to Jeff, or Dave, or any other band
members, suggest that they do a MInarets-Bluewater at this show. Just
imagine it.

files.. Is there a format (I should research this myself and not ask, but
hey) that IBMs can use, that is easily translatable? I know MPEG does
the job...

thought I'd answer this to the net since it might be of use to a lot of
people.

1 - MPG is a video format.. MPEG2 is a video/audio combination that uses .AU
files for the audio. (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.. this is my
basic understanding of MPG files, though)

2 - .AU files can be played on IBM, and very easily. There are several
players around, the most versatile probably is something called PLANY,
which, believe it or not, plays almost any sound format. I don't know where
you can find it, but if you're unable to find it, email ME (not the net), and
I'll look it up for you..

I'm sure there are also many .au - .wav or .au - .voc converters around.

anyone know why dave doesn't do acoustic openers any more?

yep. john popper won't be there, but his harmonica will be just floatin'

Yeah, during the filming of the live footage, they seemed to concentrate on

the final edit of the video - maybe they took some footage of the band in

Re: Unsubscribing from Minarets

	----------------------------------------------------------------
If you are overwhelmed with the amount of mail Minarets
		is generating, I'd suggest Digestifying.
		SET MINARETS MAIL DIGEST
Include NO subject heading and send it to LISTPROC@MOOSE.UVM.EDU

alex crothers

i recommend digestifying as well. digestifying makes things so much simpler
because
1)you get to see a summary of the subject lines at the beginning of each
digest.
2)it collects all the posts together so that they take up less room, as
well as making it possible to delete 30 posts in a single keystroke.
and it's hard for me to explain why, but it really makes things more
manageable.

i undigestified because i take such an overwhelming part in most of the
conversations, but if you just lurk, digestifying makes alot of sense.

Say Goodbye

@uvmvm.uvm.edu:SDOTY@middlebury.edu Wed Dec 7 18:06:52 1994

Hi. I was wondering if any of you had a good recording of "Say Goodbye" from
1993. I have one recording of it (12/8/93-- Floodzone), put it's poor quality
and I just got a bunch of tapes from shows this year, but somehow I like the
earlier versions of the song better.
I don't really have any tapes to trade-- but I'll bake you cookies! (???)

Re: Answers to question, query on ftp sounds.

wmc8s@darwin.clas.virginia.edu Wed Dec 7 18:55:54 1994

1) He doesnt have to kill the time (until all the band gets to
trax or the floodzone) anymore, since theyre all there.

2)He gets *almost* all of his acoustic cravings out in the
monster shows with Tim.

3)Acoustic things used to be the sounding stage for new songs
written, before the band had learned them...almost ALL of his
stuff started out this way. Get in Line is an exception, since
it was spawned from a soundcheck jam...

4) The crowd (for the most part) doesnt want to see just
Dave...they want to see Boyd and the rest of the band playing
things like ants marching.

5) He still does a FEW acoustic tunes in just about every show,
but since almost all of what they do is full band, and theyve got
such little time on stage in each place, they want to get as much
in as possible for the crowd. It's not like theyre back in
colorado every tuesday, and if they dont play ants one night,
they will the next, like it was in richmond or Cville.

Oh well, you asked...:)

Hope this helps.

and trust me, the icebox menagerie will be even more geared towards
this genre next semester, and the setlists will actually be interesting. :)

San Francisco Article

@Xenon.Stanford.EDU:malachi@leland.stanford.edu Thu Dec 8 00:18:00 1994

all in a row), I think it was CHA who asked me how they were received in
the Bay Area, the birthplace of what one might label, for lack of a better
word, "alternative" culture. I refer with this word more to its dictionary
definition than to its popular connotations. Anyway, enough rambling. I
found an article in the San Francisco Chronicle that was a full-scale
review of the Dec. 4 show at the Great American Music Hall and quite well
written, IMHO. The last section is especially interesting.

BTW, this was the OLDEST DMB crowd that I've ever seen.
And also, this was the first band review that I've seen that hasn't
compared Dave's voice to anyone else's.
Here it is, with lots of big words (my comments in {}):

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND FINDS A GENUINELY NEW SOUND by Joel Selvin
----------------------------------------------

With its fresh, unconventional sound, the Dave Matthews Band looms as one
of the big surprises on the rock scene this year.
witness the quintet from Charlottesville, Va., make its San Francisco
debut. It was a hip young house liberally dotted with recently
transplanted Southerners who already had caught on to this exciting new
group.  {THAT'S ME!!!!}
the Matthews quintet, word obviously is now spreading past the mid-Atlantic
seaboard, where the band has been turning on the collegiate crowd for three
years.  {THAT'S YOU!!!!}

Albums Doing Well
-----------------
copies in the past year, and "Under the Table and Dreaming," its RCA Victor
album, which benefits from major-league production by Steve Lilywhite (U2,
Talking Heads, Rolling Stones), has made more than a modest splash since
its release this year.
front of a three-piece rhythm section, with vocalist Matthews playing
acoustic guitar, the arresting ensemble sound of the band relies on
changing time signatures, prominent use of dynamics and a passionate
commitment.  {pretty good summary}
its material, using each number as a platform for extended exercises in
both individual improvisation and ensemble instrumentals. Violinist Boyd
Tinsley brought the crowd to fever pitch, sawing and wheezing away, before
saxophonist LeRoi Moore {this is the show that LeRoi played best in} took
the foreground with his rich, melodic tones, a kind of New Age Junior
Walker.  {Call me ignorant, but who is this?}
kaleidoscoping pastiche, stoking the rhythmic drive with energetic, vivid
figures on his acoustic guitar and charging the songs with electrifying
vocals, searing one moment, soothing the next.
songbook far deeper than most freshman entries {I'LL SAY!}. "Tomorrow
We'll Go Back to Being Friends," a song about friends who cross the line
into lovers, nailed down the plaintive narrative with a crisp attack,
Tinsley's violin marking accents underneath Matthews' stormy vocals. {I
like that adjective!}
self that rolled through cloudy, dramatic moods, a minor epic. {It was a
good version}
imaginative unity stitched together by a fierce mutuality of purpose.
Underneath the unexpectedly integrated front line, drummer Carter Beauford
and bassist Stefan Lessard entwined a lattice of rhythm that propelled the
constantly shifting sound.  {WOW!}

Swinging Groove
---------------
crescendo, then settled back into a swinging groove that would not have
been out of place in a salsa.  {Never thought of him that way}
performance {WRONG! I think it was about 2 and a half} received, the
audience was not looking for the Dave Matthews Band to fit into some
preconceived category.  {Thank God!}

=46inding a Genuinely New Sound
-----------------------------
certain kinds of minority music have been lumped together under the term
"alternative."
real challenge for musicians is to find a means of expression free enough
of clich=E9 to be an authentic alternative. This is the most exciting
triumph of the Dave Matthews Band.

Sorry about the comments, but I couldn't help myself.

The Good Times message on Swarthmore campus, claiming to have a virus, was
a hoax intending to incite panic. There was no virus in the message, and
there were no harmful attachments with the message. **Please do not send
warning messages to other schools or sites; it simply spreads uninformed
panic for no reason.** Send warnings if you have seen first-hand evidence,
and only to official sources (like the Computing Center) to keep
rumor-mongering to a minimum.

America OnLine has reported having a harmful file being transferred as an
attachment with the Good Times subject. The problem may only occur on AOL.

Even so, files like that are not harmful unless you open them. If you find
an unknown attachment like that, trash it and that's the end of the
problem.

1. Viruses *cannot* be passed in an email message. Simply reading a
message will not give your computer a virus. That's not the way viruses
work.

2. Trojan horses (a harmful program masquerading as something else) can
be transferred from one place to another via email, but they are HARMLESS
unless opened (just like any other application). Trojan horses are passed
as attachments to an email file.

Again, if anyone has any information about the originator of this prank

about wanting DMB tapes and I faded away cause of my thesis. BUT I AM

(including blanks) is cool! Lets get in touch and trade the music we love.

By the way, I have become a Dave fan because of UTTAD. I have been a

how awesome DMB must be live. Help me learn! (selfish me!) And I will do
the same with Blues Traveler for those who don't know them that well, or

First of all the correct spelling is Dave Matthews. Some idiots have
been misspelling dave's name which really pisses me off. After all we are all
brought together because of this man and his band the least you could do is
 spell his name right.

Although my feelings may not be as despondent towards this and other
issues, I have an incredible photo of yours truly under a sign at the
backstage in seattle. it was this summer's show and the sign read
'midnight, dave mathews band.' well to make a long story short, the
drive was long but the show and the beer were FREE so the minor
grammatical error didn't matter. :)

a random statement

STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Thu Dec 8 16:00:01 1994

since i've undigestified, i've made an astonishing discovery.

it makes this net so interactive that i can take part in any
conversation i want to as it happens. it use to be i would sit
there and read entire threads to the point where they would get
stale and i would have nothing to say.

not that i make the threads any more lively by taking part in
them, but now the part of me that's so outspoken that i just
want to explode (a large part of me, that is) is much happier.

i'm not sitting here to justify why everyone should undigestify
and have a free for all, because 2/3 of you reading this have
probably never posted, nor do you plan to. digestifying works
for some people, but i've discovered it's not for me.

so what's my point?

under no circumstances should we even think about forming a usenet
at phish.net. they have a usenet group which leads to the most
random flamebait ever concieved, which also leads to enormous
flame wars that are a tawdry affair, PARTICULARLY for the digestified
people (which is everyone on phish.net). we have interactivity here
for those who want it. if you want to be an active part of this
net, just undigestify. i have no qualms about starting a separate
new group for those who just love usenet, but we simply don't need
all the extra traffic here.

anyone agree?

O.K., I saw Dave Matthews Band last night at the Whisky here in L.A. and I'm
raving so hard this morning people around here think I'm a loonatic. Who
they ask? Ahhhh, your loss. So be it. I mention it here because this net
inspired me to check them out. They played an incredible 2+hour set (I
didn't stop dancing) and the Gila dude, the one who's band posts here...
HI... played harmonica on their encore (What Would You Say).
O.K., so Santa? This is what I want for 1995 --I want to see DMB and BT
together. And I want that acoustic Ovation with the pick-up...

This is in response to Mike's question about DMB and the samples. While the
bands certainly have a long relationship some of you probably were there when
Sean Kelly played during DMB's break.
vocalist) took the stage with thee words "This is kind of unexpected but its
a good thing because the Dave Matthews Band has become one of my most
favorite bands. Ready Boyd." He and Boyd melodized thru 3 beautiful versions
of "Feel Us Shaking", "Did YOu Ever Look So Nice", and "Oceans of War". It
was amazing. IT was a dramatic demonstration of what Boyd can do for a song.

This show also featured a crazy approximately 30 minute jam of #36 the first
time I'd heard the song and I believe one of the first times it had been
played.

One hell of a day.

The perfect combination of Tinsley & Samples shows up on the Samples latest
album as well.

By the way does anyone have extra tickets to NYE -- some of my friends were
too slow in getting tickets.

Thanks

Dancing Nancies

I see that Dancing Nancies is also absent from the chord file so here it is
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------
G F#
could I have been anyone other than me...

G - F#
he stands touch his head shoes untied
tongue gaping stare could i have been
magnet for money
could i have been anyone other than me

twenty three i'm so tired of life
such a shame to throw it all away
the images grow darker still
could i have been anyone other than me

A D A
look up at the sky my mouth is open wide

D F# G
turn turn we almost become dizzy

(back to the G-F# pattern)

The last pattern in this song is

Bm - D - A - F#7sus4 (which looks like this)

Bm D A
sing and dance i'll play for you tonight

the thrill of it all

Bm D A
dark clouds may hang over me sometimes

but i'll work it out

Last week, I asked if anyone who was going to the Bender show wanted to
trade before, and several people responded, with one person suggesting
the will call window area as a convienent and easy-to-find site.

so, if you are going to the show, let's all meet around 7 at the will
call window with some tapes and do a little trading and hanging out. the
show starts at 8, so 7 should be plenty of time to deal and still see
From Good Homes play.

how does this plan sound?
see you at the show!!!

good luck on finals, all dmb fans!!

Re: a random statement

When I made my suggestion about forming a news group, it was more as a way
to get the flame wars OFF the mailing list and onto the newsgroup. That way
we could have rational discussions here. I didn't wanna have the list be
a digest of the group. But I made that suggestion before I undigested, and
started filtering my mail. :-)

For anyone who is capable of reading their mail more than once a day, and
enjoys being an active participant, I say don't digest. Also, if
you're like me and have a really short attention span, it helps to be
able to read the messages individually.

On the other hand, if you CAN'T read your mail regularly, and don't
have access to a way to filter your mail, DON'T undigest, as your
mailbox will get flooded quickly.

And, "Did you ever have head lice?", or "Did you ever have pet mice?"

By the way I saw the Samples last night in Peoria, and it was incredible!
They had a great set list. Sean played a version of "Could It Be Another
Change" that reminded me of a camp fire or something. It was a very
peppy version. But cool nevertheless. A friend of mine was brought up
on stage by Sean, and played his guitar. Also, to guitarists, I got
Sean's set list from the ground in front of him, and it has all the fret
numbers for his capo. So if you are curious as to where he puts the
capo on some of their songs, drop me a line. Here is the set list

Won't Be Back Again
Little Silver Ring
Taking Us Home
Weight of the World
Feel Us Shakin'
Water Rush
Playground
Did You Ever Look So Nice
Prophit of Doom
Could It Be Another Change
When It's Raining
Giants
Seany Boy
Only To You
As Tears Fall
Taxi
Nothing Lasts for Long
Buffalo Herds & Windmills
Underwater People

Birth Of Words

Sorry this had nothing to do with DMB.

By the way, I don't know any body that recorded the show, but if you did
or you know somebody that did, please write me and tell me. Thanks.

Whoever's looking for this, or whoever's interested...

DMB opened for the Samples sometime in April of this year (I'm tempted to
say the 14th or so) at the Orpheum in Boston. Drove two hours to see
Dave, missed all but two songs because the will- call line took forever.
However, Boyd came out and played with the Samples on Feel Us Shaking- a
nice touch. Anyway, a tape of this is kinda like what you're looking for,
but I don't have one. At least you know what to look for.

hey there bruce...

dude, dmb will not be up north anytime soon i dont think, according to
their schedule that i recieved today via postmail. there are many rumors
going round up here at Trinity that theyre coming to play for us in late
january. they came last year for spring festival, as you may know.
anyway, since their last dated concert is the NYE in richmond, they could
very well be playing up north a bit, but it all depends on how long is your
break. i dont know how far north you live but i know that dmb makes
frequent stops in delaware at U of D.

well i dont think i was much of a help. but anyway, see you round...

There will be no taping allowed at the Valintines show. All decks,
mikes. etc. WILL BE CONFISCATED. This is the symphony's rule not the
bands. For more information call the DMB office.

Hey all,
actually have the legal right to take your stuff? I know most tickets
have a statement on the back to the effect "the management reserves the
right to revoke this ticket if...", but nowhere do they say that they
can steal your stuff. If anyone has a semi-factual response I would be
very interested. I'm not posting this to generate a thread where
everyone and their mother voices their opinion. Take it easy.

v-day taping

cbuford@liberty.uc.wlu.edu Fri Dec 9 01:57:37 1994

I just bought my cumberbun/sony d7 and my combat boots/Neumann mics so we
should be set to tape. The soundboard patch will go up my trousers into
my bow tie/d7 also just in case...

Mpls show and trades

EDOHERTY@MACALSTR.EDU Fri Dec 9 02:23:01 1994

First, does anybody have the SETLIST for the DMB show in MINNEAPOLIS at the
Cabooze on 10/26/94. It was my first show (the first time they played out
there). I knew a lot of the songs but didn't write anything down and now all
that I remeber was they started with Seek Up :-)

Second, does anybody have tapes of the above mentioned 10/26/94 Mpls show! I
didn't see any AUD tapers, but maybe somebody plugged into the SBD.

I would like to get more DMB tapes. I have three 1st gen SBD shows from '93
and that is all at this point. I am looking for HQ 1-3gen SBDs only. Besides
the three DMB shows all 1st gen SBD (6/22/93, 10/26/93, 11/9/93), I also have
750+ hours of Grateful Dead and 175+ hours of "other". I am sure you can find
something you'd like...if not then we won't trade...but if you have low gen
SBDs send me your list.

Peace!

Eric Doherty "edoherty@macalstr.edu"

One thing i've noticed about mailing lists...if people delete their .sig files
it makes reading the digest much easier....a little work on your side and a
lot less bandwidth for everyone else.

By the way, I don't know any body that recorded the show, but if you did
or you know somebody that did, please write me and tell me. Thanks.

Election day

pcharrig@students.wisc.edu Fri Dec 9 02:30:15 1994

What is so special about this election day show? Are we celebrating the
GOP's new reign of terror? (Agh!) OK, does anyone out there in etherland
have this show? Obviously new to DMB, but have about 5 shows (all HQ).
Are tix available for V-Day still? No taping? Hah, hah, hah (ever heard of
the old minidisc in the popcorn trick?)

-------------------------------------
G F#
could I have been anyone other than me...

The chord used throughout the song is , I Believe,
a Gmaj7 insted of just plain ole G. You'll hear
a world of difference.

I think dave plays the intro like this, in case anyone's
E------------------------------------------------
B------------------------2------------------------2
G---4-4-x---4-4-4-4-4----2-------4-4-x---4-4-4-4--2
D---4-4-x---4-4-4-4-4----2-------4-4-x---4-4-4-4--2
A--------x-----------------xx---------x------------
E-3------x3----------------xx--2------x2-----------

"x" means hit the strings while muted.

Repeat this ad nauseum. This is overly simplified
for purposes tabbing it out, but should get you
on the right track.

v-day, so far away...

STU_RCTHOMPS@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Fri Dec 9 12:00:44 1994

To all of you challenged recorders......
Good luck guys....i know it is possible...i had a friend
who taped a show (the group i don't remember at the moment) that
was highly illegal to record by running a patch off the soundboard
 	during
the whole show without the sound man even knowing! Another guy
i heard about, had his DAT player in his crotch of his pants,
with the mics hidden in his top hat...the top hat was made of some
high quality material to increase the quality of his recording,
too. So, good luck and have fun doing it!!! I know you guys
can! And, of course, if you are successful, don't forget to
drop me a line about doing some trading!!!

							Mike Lund

well, given the public nature of this net and all, i think you've
just guaranteed that we're all going to be frisked at that show.
thanx. :)

BUT

when dmb came to lexington and rusted root opened, all us over-zealous
taper types were all excited to be getting our first rusted root shows.
but when bagby found out about this excitement, he said, "but their
contract states no soundboard patches," and BOOP are signal was gone.
then near the end of rr's set, boyd joins them on stage, and i casually
and LO and BEHOLD......a signal, as pure, powerful, and plain as day
as leroi's high note on the 2-22-94 watchtower. i point at it and
we all scramble like a collection of mighty mice screaming "here i come
to save the day!!!!!" and we get a phat copy of the unreleased tune
big white bird and a phatter copy of rain (off of when i woke). as
soon as boyd disappeared, so did the signal.

SOOOOOOO....
what i think happened is that since boyd was on stage, and since he was
a part of the headlining band, his contract, which specifically allows
for taping, took precedence.

now when we get to the carpenter center on v-day, we'll be seeing "the
dave matthews band w/ the richmond symphony."
1)dave matthews is headlining, so maybe his contract can override the
2)to the best of my knowledge, the symphony will only be playing material

any thoughts, anyone?

Re: Dancing Nancies

-
- I see that Dancing Nancies is also absent from the chord file so here it is
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- -------------------------------------
- G F#
- could I have been anyone other than me...
-
- G - F#

E-----O-----------O-----------------------
B-----O-----------O-----------------------
G-----4-----------3-----------------------
D-----O-----------4-----------------------
A-----2-----------4-----------------------
E-----3-----------2-----------------------

-
- Bm - D - A - F#7sus4 (which looks like this)
-
- -2------
- -2------
- -4------
- -2------
- -4------
- -2------
I've always played G#sus4 for this last one

That's what it sounds like on the Recently EP.

Try it. Tell me if I'm wrong.

1. Does anyone know what time the show on Dec 30th at Bender Arena starts? I'm
planning on going down

2. In "Jimi Thing", what does that line "Sometimes I walk there, Sometimes I
take a bus there..." referring to?

Thanks,

Gavin
