before we left Dave grabbed my arm and asked me to
give him my name once again. He wrote it down on the back of the necklace and
said this was so he never would forget. I think that was one of the nicest
 things he could of done.

Wilmington????

bpharm!uvm.edu!Kelly.Hale@sadye.EMBA.UVM.EDU Sun Feb 19 11:28:55 1995

April 15 show in Wilmington, NC, REALLY???
Outdoors at the fairgrounds?
Can DMB really be playing in my home town in the spring, while I'll be stuck
up here in VT during mud season?
Are you sure about this Tommy 2 Tone???
If this is indeed true, I guess a 16 hour road trip home will be in order!!
Although the fairgrounds are not the most aesthetically pleasingly, the
beach is only 5 miles down the road.
For all those minaretters who are thinking about attending you need to find
a place (beach house, motel, hotel, couch, etc) ASAP!! This is Easter
Weekend and everyone comes to the beach that weekend!! If you can't get
reservations, I'm sure my big bro, alan, will put you up! Won't ya Al??
And just when I thought my DMB show days were over for awhile!!
Hope to see you there!

Do I really want to see Ugly Americans and BHT again???

Edwin and Hootie show

hauser@server.chem.ufl.edu Sun Feb 19 12:28:39 1995

WOW!!! My first time seeing the Edwin McCain Band and I was impressed. This
guy can wail, kinda reminds me a little of the singer of "The Commitments"
movie. And the band can mix up the groove as well. The band was well
received by the sold out audience of about 1400. Hootie was really good
too, and Edwin came out in the middle of the show to sing a funky jamming
song trading verses with Darius Rucker, (Hootie's singer). Man, these guys
have some pipes...Hootie's guitar player said his mom was in the audience
and she said that Edwin was the best opening band she's ever seen. They
played Hold My Hand, predictably, for the 2nd encore, but decided they wanted
to play another tune. They covered Stephen Stills' (or CSNs??) Love The One
You're With, with Edwin, and the rest of his band playing assorted
percussion.
They played this a good 8-10 minutes with some good jams, and again,
incredible vocals. Edwin walked right past me between after they were done,
and I stopped him and told him I enjoyed their set and told him about hearing
about the band on Minarets, and what'd he think about having his own net.
He seemed pretty psyched about it. He told me they'd be back in town in
March playing at a smaller club and to check them out. I definitely will...

These guys need to get out of the southeast to spread their following...

Later,
Brian

can somebody repost the Edwin Net address?

** Valentine's Day Tree Repost **

wl1o+@andrew.cmu.edu Sun Feb 19 15:17:35 1995

Greetings everyone,
that I'd repost the tree form in case anyone else had done the same.
Please note that this is exactly the same as the message that was posted
a few days ago. If you have sent in your form then you are on the tree.

If you want a copy of this memorable show this is the time to respond.
To any ultra newbies out there, a tree is simple an organized way of
distrubuting a popular show. I expect that this tree will generate an
emmense number of responses so please use the form use the form below so
I can process all the requests.
show because we weren't technically allowed to tape it. From my
experience with Dave and the band as well as Carter's comments after the
show, it seems that the "no taping" was more due to the Symphony and
contractual stuff rather than the bands wishes. I also think that every
DMB fan out there should hear this show, wheather they were able to make
it there or not.
clear up an erroneous post on Minarets. A couple days ago, Carrie
Foster posted an offer of the Valentine's Day show. She is an
aquaintence of my brother and assumed that she'd be getting a copy
immediately through my brother. Well, to make a long story short, if
you are supposed to be getting a copy from her please sign up for the
tree instead. I'm trying to get copies out to everybody through this
tree and I appreciate that y'all are willing to put up with the slight
delay that comes with organizing a tree.

other flavors that y'all may want, so please indicate this on the
following form. Also, As you might imagine this will be an immense

Did you tape 2/15?

wl1o+@andrew.cmu.edu Sun Feb 19 15:24:13 1995

Hey all,
recieved a reply with a really good idea form another Minaretter. It
would be a really cool to include #36 from 2/15 on the treed tape. This
way we could get the best of both worlds since this was the only major
difference between the two nights. So, if you taped or have access to a
HQ copy (DAT preferred) of this show, please get in touch with me. I've
even got lots of tasty stuff trade to make it appealing. Take it easy.

Radio Interviews and Specials

hey now,
pleasant as it is here in D.C. i was wondering if any one has any Dave radio
interviews or in studio appearances on tape. i personally have only one such
rarity and i fear that it is incomplete (two songs played on JMU's station).
i think that it would be neat to put together a compilation tape of radio
"sightings" by DMB, and then tree it. if you have any such radio performances,
then i would like to trade for a copy of them. i will then administer a tree,
so that everyone may partake. does this sound cool? please help me out if you
can! thanks.

Re: tree?

bmking@mail.wm.edu Mon Feb 20 02:03:36 1995

hey everyone,
I am a newbie and was wondering what the idea was behind a tree.
I am anxious in building a collection of DMB shows and was wondering
if this would be a good way to do it, could someone explain it?
thanks.

I posted this to the blues trav and horde nets, since i'm running a little
'ole tree over there, & thought it might be helpful on this side of the fence
as well..

Bob (root)

So, Bob is the root of the tree. He 'seeds' the tree, cuz he's da man and
has the best tapes to make copies of (or is at least willing). Bill and Beth
get their tapes from Bob, either through sending him blank tapes and return
postage, or through trading. Once they get their tapes, they either trade or
get blanks + postage from their kids or leaves.

Often, a tree doesn't have to go beyond the tapes Bill & Beth would make,
since there are enough people offering to be branches/parents. With larger
ones, though, Holly might make some tapes for people if she offered to be a
branch, for example.

If you have good dubbing equipment, offering to be a branch is common. If
you have a small collection, being a parent or branch can increase your
collection by quite a bit, since you can possibly be trading with all your
leaves/kids.

Hope this wasn't too confusing & helped clear up a couple questions regarding
trees & their structure. If anyone has any further info, please go ahead &
post it.

by rolling a ten-sided die...i hate 4/4...but my friend just improvises until
she finds a catchy riff and has me write it down...but it is invariably in 4/4

shit cleaned up from all those damn rodeos...from what i understand,
ticketmaster will not be getting their greedy little hands on this. tickets
go on sale locally sat 2/25. if you are from out of town the best way and
maybe the only way to get tix will be thru poindexter records 910-313-0076,
this is the only way i have found to obtain them over the phone....i have
been told there will be anywhere from 5000-10000
tickets available. tickets will be $17.50 thru poindexters....this show is
during easter weekend, but more importantly it will be during azalea
festival weekend, which is a very big time in these here parts.....the
festivities will be enourmous....places to stay will be extremely hard to
find, unless you act soon.

this might be a little help

carolina bch might be your best bet, it is only about 7 miles from
fairgrounds, camping might be a good alternative, if anyone out there needs

I've been a net-man for a couple of months now and have been sitting back
and watching the comments fly on this thing...
I was wondering if anyone out there has a concert on tape of DMB playing
these following songs on it...
If there was a concert where Dave and the boys played these five songs and
someone out there has it, could you please let me know...
I would be very grateful for any help...
Thanks...

More 2/15 stuff

73KIMBERLING@CUA.EDU Mon Feb 20 16:48:51 1995

Sorry for waiting so long to weigh in on the show. It took me this long to
catch up on all the work that I blew off to head down to Richmond on Wednesday.
Shared the 2 &1/2 car ride w/Morgan, Dominic & Joanna. Listened to great shows
on the deck and talked about Dave. Met Boofy & Co. at Third Street. The food
was good, but service was (uncharacteristically?) slow. Loved the show.
Dancing Nancies was my personal highlight (except for the audience clapping.
I hate it when that happens. Sing along if you know the words. That doesn't
bother me unless your obnixious about it. Any idiot can clap along.) I was
able to get backstage to meet Dave and Carter (more thanks lumped on Dominic.
Have you gotten any more solicitations from strange men?) I blew off a lot of
work and a few classes to make the trip, but it was all well worth it.

Two days after lamenting the lack of Dave support at my school, I found a
fellow Minaretter sitting two seats away from me in the computer room. Greg
currently has no Dave tapes and would like to get some. I'm going to help
"30ossi@cua.edu"

Cheer up, Kev. I'm not the only Kimberling on the net, and I'm certainly not
the only Mike.

random thoughts

andynyc@panix.com Mon Feb 20 18:14:35 1995

1) It seems to be accepted fact that #34 and #36 have their
names because they were the 34th and 36th songs written by
Dave (or DMB)... anyone know what would qualify as #35? Get
In Line maybe...

2) Has anyone noticed that on the video, MTV has the song
titled "What Would You Say?" witha question mark... There
is no question mark anywhere on UTTAD's cover, disc, or
liner notes. I know that is a technicality, but I found it
odd...

Does anyone have the setlist to the 8.11.94 Nashville show??

Brian... Thanks a lot. I have some new stuff... is there anything you're
interested in??

Does anyone know more about the Duke show (if it exists?) If so, when will
the TicketBitches know anything?

Is this HOB thing on cable, america online, MTV, TBS, or what???

I saw TR3 last week... Oooooh you gotta see that guy play...

Is DMB opening for Tom Petty, Blues Traveler, or noone this spring?

I know this is non-DMB and all... but my friend hee is dying for a good BT
bootleg. Can anyone help him??

Have I asked enough questions in one letter? I don't think so.

Digesting is DEFINITELY the way to go.

Damn! Damn! Damn!

Does anyone know the statis of the Cedar Rapids show on March 19? Is
Dave and the boy going to be there with BHT&M and those Ugly guys?
Anyone? Anyone?

I don't know which is worse, writing my paper on the U.S.
intervention in the Russian revolution or the news of the
Dave not playing Peoria! Why does this part of the midwest always
get screwed over. Tomorrow was going to be Spin Doctors and Rusted
Root, but they canceled. If Blues Traveler cancels I'm going to shoot
someone!

I can't even go to the Chicago show because my school is bringing
Toad the Wet Sprocket and Hootie and the Blowfish to Davenport on the

show let me know personally.

Just curious. My, it would be cool if they did, and it would give

Rhyme n Reason

Jimi Thing
Lover Lay Down
Recently =
Something new???=

Ants

Tripping Billies

extremely loud and annoying during Lover. Between Recently and #36, Dave
was playing something and singing, but I could not understand a word he was
saying. The rest of the band was just focused on Dave, but not playing a
note. I think this may be a new song, but you never know. It was
definately not Norwegian Wood. The intro to Billies was long and had
words. Never seen that before. The set was too short, and a little
disappointing for me, but they were really on. Too tired to write any
more.

I have about 20 hours of DMB and about 100 hours of Phish. I'll be getting

Anyone else who mailed me last week and didn't get a reply, I'll try to

As a rule, I don't put my address on this net, so you have to let me know

C'ville 3-25 to 3-31. Lemme know if there's anything to see in town
either weekend.
got the WOKE root album...good stuff, buy it now!
I'd like to thank this net for giving me hot tips like this...anything
else I should know about?
other than DMB, hatters, LOS, Root, GSW(knew about 'em), and the obvious
HORDE types...

any of ya'll heard of Grinch? (Delaware resounds with a YEAH!)
anyone have Grinch on tape? Phishy psychedelic band...very much their own
style, but in the same classification...good stuff. see 'em when they
come to town.

how about old Party Akimbo...any boots of them floating around?
or 4 wall something-or-other....they were cool a while ago (my age is
showing here)

any of ya'll check out the Aquarian? it's supposed to be THE GUIDE to
East Coast bands from Boston to VA.

I saw a killer blues group Saturday night at a club here in Newark called
the Bourbon Street cafe...unfortunately, I forget what they were called.
Really Eric Ray Allman sounding stuff with a 60 yr old Ella
Fitzgerald-esque singer....whew! they hail from Boston, but I can'
remember their name. they were cool. see all the blues bands in Boston,
and find out who they were...it's worth it.

okay...FMIMB gets free shit....you love it!!!!! whozitgonnabeeeeeeee?
hehheh

i completely missed the 2/20 setlist when it was posted.. I guess i just
whizzed through lots of posts, or something.. but anyway, it came to my
attention that there was a worded intro to billies.. don't 'spose any of you
would know if that's the SCREAMIN' intro? that would be cool.. at lexington
he brings back the old intro then now starts the SCREAMIN' one again (it's
required to write it as such; make note).

anyway, i thought i'd ask 700 people.

"A Prayer In The Pentagon"

bmking@mail.wm.edu Tue Feb 21 02:35:02 1995

Hello you minaretter-type persons. I saved this, just cuz.

"a poem i read in high school was the inspiration for this.. i can't
remember it's name.. my mom, would, though.. but there's not really much of
a difference between inspiration and plaigerism.. unless you're god... then
no one can really tell you anything.." (or something to that effect)-- dave

living in shrouded secrecy under the covers and whispering amongst us we are,
brett

------- Forwarded Message Follows -------

After some searching I finally found "A Prayer In The Pentagon", the poem by
Robert Dederick which Dave says inspired "Typical Situation", and I thought
I'd share it with the group. The poem can be found in a collection of
Dederick's works called "The Quest and Other Poems" published by Purnell of
Cape Town in 1968.
In case you want to know, I'm borrowing the book from UMass right now (it's
sort of hard to find). Thank you to Shannon for the help. Indents indicate
continuation of the previous line.

an apology

klong@guest.sura.net Tue Feb 21 06:55:15 1995

I wanted to make a public apology to anyone who showed
up at Styleen's last night based upon my post here. My
usually reliable source proved not to be so reliable
and I'm embarassed to admit that I help fuel a rumor.
Dave did not show up as I was told he might. However,
we were treated to a totally blitzed lead singer (Bob)
from the Ugly American's who proceeded to abuse people
sitting near the stage after Jamie N. was gracious enough
to let him perform. I left during this portion of the
set, so I'm not sure what happened after that.

I'm real new to this thing but I have left a few messages on this before,
but i thought I would really introduce myself. My name is Matt Cooper,
but most people just call me Coop. I'm a Freshman at JMU where I first
got a taste of DMB last September with his new release--since then, I
think you all can guess what has happenned. I've only seen DMB one time
and that was at Lexington VA in November--it was unbelievable. Well, I
thought I would just drop a line to everyone to let them know there is
a newbie around. Feel free to write me back to say HI. Seeya, Coop.

PS-Can somebody please teach me about this tree bizness and let me know
how to get on it. Thanx again.

Shows in Minnesota/Wisconsin

alang@engin.umich.edu Tue Feb 21 11:08:42 1995

Since the Peoria show is cancelled, does anyone know if DMB is going to be
playing in Minneapolis or any place near Minnesota or Wisconsin. My only
other option is try to get tickets to the chicago show.

Anybody a DMB fan from Minnesota? It doesn't seem like the band is very
popular out here. I'm from new jersey so that's why I know DMB. I'm
trying to get these slow minded people interested but it's hard!
Anyways, anybody know about shows?

I'm looking for a song that I have on tape that's labeled "Two Step." I

well hey...

syracuse was pretty good last night...they played all the songs that i like
the least however...and why did i know they were gonna play ants,
satellite, and recently...(4 1/2 hr version and shit) oh well...i guess
they had never played syracuse and wanted to introd. fans to their
music....hmmmm....snuck up front for dave...my seats had previously been
decent but far...got to bout 4th row...big dudes wearing green tried to
move us out....but we were too many...too thick...yeeeeahah

i agree...weird intro into 36,,,thought it was halloween and then
surprise.....

intro into billies also new....hmmm...no new songs...just new intros...well
i hope rochester..where i have pit tickets...will not only be
different...but also kicking...rhyme/reason rocked....me out...

ran into jeff peters who isnt so little...he and that guy who made
necklaces were seemingly going backstage...i am awaiting some fantastic

just took my neuro exam...heehheh i am a true fan...but y'know grooving
and bouncing to dave last night...i thought...hey i can't think of anywhere
id rather be...and laughed....

show thoughts...where was seek up, minarets, halloween, say goodbye,
warehouse???, christmas song, back you up.... i mean i can't expect blue
water or spotlight...or rare stuff. .but c'mon...rage a little...croon a
little... landmark was too small, or their speakers were too loud...their
tight jams...lost tightness due to reverb...

but i still loved it...

crowd was surprisingly ok...bht were so lame...such uninspiring music...
missed ugly...no loss i hear...

2 Feb 94 / restored faith

RHOFHEIMER@CENTER.COLGATE.EDU Tue Feb 21 12:04:44 1995

I know the set list has already been posted, so I'll just give a quick
highlight tour.
thought they put on a great show, but then again, who wouldn't in such a
totally funky-fly environment. The Landmark is o so cool, great ornamentation
on the walls and ceiling, mirrors all through the lobby. I was sitting at the
very front of the balcony and felt like I was on top of hte stage, it was
really cool. But, now on to the highlights. . .
Dancing nancies . . .
intro and i thought Dave did it pretty well. Not A highlight, per say, just an
observation. . .
Lie in Our Graves. . .
one. . . Good long Jams all around. . . broken down right before the "Could
you believe that we would. . ." part and then just blasting into it taking the
entire crowd with them. . . I had chills, and it was only the second song.
Jimi Thing
it. Was that a solo in Dave's part i heard? Oh yes, it was. chills...
Recently. . .
CD. Brought a smile to my face. The Jam was pretty good, but no "Some people
do" and no "pretty pretty girl"
Now I've never heard Blue Water before either on Tape or Live, is that What i
heard before #36? Whatever it was, it was great, and best of all, the crowd
didn't screww it up by yelling for other songs, they just sat back and grooved
while Dave did his thing. Extra-mint Cool.
mentioned the fact that I'd never seen or heard Blue Water, and the other folks
there offered to send tapes, but pretty much disregarded the possibility of me
seeing it there. If it was truelly Blue Water. . .
Then, the segue into #36. . .
I've ever heard it played. Beautiful. Happy happy. DOuble-mint cool. O how
sweet it was. Nothing in particular, just in general, it was fly. . .
Ants. . .
little diferently and regain my admiration. The intro was really really good.
Dave was obviously having a lot of fun with the crowd on this one, great dance
moves. (by the way did you check out the pants and sweater? Am i right in
assuming that this was the outfut alluded to in an interview from a bit back?
Doesn't matter, but I thought I'd mention.) Dave you are awe inspiring.
Trippin' Billies. . .
and then, then, then (this is ment to build up suspense), then he startes
singing along with the intro. How great! What did he say, i couldn't make it
out at the time, and surely couldn't now. then he went left the intro and went
into a pretty good Billies, but the intro was still lingering in my soul. . .

All in all a great show. It was really cool(have used that word before?) to
meet some of y'all. (heavyhead, great necklace, sorry about Dave's.) (fellow
Colgate guy, I forgot your name!!! give me a call, I'm the only Hofheimer in
the book, we should try to set up some trades, it's so easy to walk instead of
mail.)
more background harmonies than usual, possibly a result of some of the symphony
orchestration? I welcome comments. BTW, when I say "background harmonies" I'm
not taling about when they take turns soloing, I'm talking about when they play
long sustained notes together as an added layer to the song, usually while DAve
is singing. I really thought it sounded good, and perhaps I just haven't piced
up on it before, but either way, comment on. . .

"I gargle with whiskey every day and I haven't had a cold in years!"
"We may eventually come to realize that chastity is no more a virtue than

Find some inspiration, it's down deep inside of you. Amend your situation,

P.S. H.R.A. grads. . .Who are you? Hope you enjoyed the buffet. You can pick
up your prizes at the door.

P.P.S. I can't remember if I've made this plea already, but If there is a copy
of last nights show (20 Feb 95) out there I'd love to trade for it. I saw a
microphone in the center of the balcony section, so i know there is one
somewhere. get in touch please (Rhofheimer@center.colgate.edu).

Sir Wolverine,
However, They are appearing with BHTM @ The Eagles Auditorium in Milwaukee
on Wed March 15. Tix are about $22.00 (must be BHTM's fault). I can
definitely relate to your frustration about trying to find fellow DMB fans
in the midwest, or at least here in Milwaukee...Although I did hear that the
Chicago show sold out in about 10 minutes. Good luck in trying to get tix
for that soiree.
expect to change real fast.
