review of syracuse show

gnkessle@mailbox.syr.edu Tue Feb 21 13:44:56 1995

well... I must say that I was extremely impresses with the band. imho bht
was quite disappointing. they are way too loud and the bass solo was
pretty poor. I was not paying much attention. I managed to be in the
orchestra pit for all of dmb because ambrosia healy (dmb promtions) was cool
enought to 0hook me up with the guest list and a press pass. anyway, a litle
different intro to start the show in dancing nancies. not could have
been...but still cool. lie in our graves was sick. #36 was definitely a
great tune. they went all out. it just seemed like they were having such
a great time up on stage and wanted to be there. I loved recently and
thought it made the show. one thing i noticed was they have been putting in
some catchy tunes to start some of the songs off. Recently, Nancies,
Jimi, and tripping billies were all a little bit different. definitely
cool though. I got some great shots of the band and could hook a few
people up with pictures (postage and paper) (jen, your pic's will be sent
out first!) anyway, if anyone cares, when they came out for an encore I
thew a bag of m&m's out towards dave and carter picked them up. carter
through them to dave and dave ate a few. Dave thanked me and carter tried
to throw a drumstick to me. I did not have the coordination to catch it
but he shook my hand and handed one to me after the encore. I managed to
hang out with dave after the show and he was really pleasent and seemed
very hospitable. He loved the rso and was still excited about doing the
show. enough rambling, but i look forward to the rochester show now and
will throw another bag of m&m's at dave and see if he remembers. later
on, greg

Does anybody have a copy of the show(that they would be willing to tape for me)
or at least the setlist of the show that DMB played at the State Fairgrounds
in Syracuse on this date at the H.O.R.D.E. festival? It was my first DMB show,
so it would be greatly appreciated. Anybody et a tape of the show in Syracuse
in Rochester, although I was a little disappointed by the lask of Warehouse and
Song that Jane likes. Thanks for any help on these matters.
Hope to see some of you in Rochester.

music....hmmmm....snuck up front for dave...my seats had previously been
decent but far...got to bout 4th row...big dudes wearing green tried to
move us out....but we were too many...too thick...yeeeeahah

Nothing personal, but if you want better seats, buy tickets earlier...
Don't force those people in the 4th row to have to pay attention to you
rather than the show.

just an opinion,

syracuse and tangerine?

drcraver@mailbox.syr.edu Tue Feb 21 14:45:47 1995

Somebody asked about DMB doing tangerine, I sure the hell don't know but
Todd did it last night. I think.

Crowd was better than I expected, hard to surf over seats I guess, thank
god or someone. Why when quieter songs come on(lover) it becomes a
contest to see who can scream loudest and longest? I lost the
competition, shit. I didn't even participate....the drunk fux. (that's
kinda negative huh?0

*obligitory 14yr old girl story*
The ones sitting behind me proclaiming to the world that Jimi Thing is
THEIR song... I sorta thought of it as evryones? Made me laugh...

The list was posted so why bother. Would have liked a different encoreIMHO
When Dave asks(growls) "How are you all doing so far?" Does anyone else
get sorta scared? That dude twisted, I mean really fucked in the head.

Hello to the fellow netters I met. Faces to go with the messages, pretty
damn cool. peace, Dan

uh... blue water babboon farm is a song.
it is a song that dave matthews band plays.
(or rather.. used to play..i dont' think it's been played past march '93
or something..)

anyway..
if you are askign questions.. uh...
have you gotten the lyrics file?
even the one little line in it that says
'boyd's psychedelic fiddle'
is kind've a hint.

get the lyrics file.

maybe people who know exactly what the song titles are
coudl be so kind as to post the setlists..
cause all these ??? confuse the shit outta me
makin me think there's new songs and shit..
and blue water being played in syracuse
when it was prolly something linke
say goodbye or some other song not on any of the cd's...

just griping.. i think it's time it's deserved..
my closed mouth has stayed soo too long...

as for the girl who asked about getting backstage and peing poromised
tickets..
well...
my experience with beign guestlisted
by the band has always been successful.
but.. then again..
i'm clare emily...
so...
i dunno if things are confirmed for whoever
it is who asked.
i mean.. if your'e asking the net if you are confirmed..
and you dont' know..
then i'd not count on it..
but i'm nto one to speak..
i'm only a simple meager girl..
(who loves the word clandestine...)

RECENT COVER-UP IN MEXICO: PLEASE READ and FWRD!

whb4@cornell.edu Tue Feb 21 16:23:43 1995

--- Forwarded Message from Jeffrey J. Urstadt ---

We've just recevied an emergency call from friends in Mexico. They
tell us that the Mexican army has surrounded the city of San Cristobal in
Chiapas, and that the hospital in the nearby city of Comitan is flooded with
casualities. The press is being excluded from the area. The people
being attacked are the Myan Indians, and other poor farmers, who've been
denied aid and food since the conquest.

They've asked that we try to get word about this out via email. While
we have no further information beyond this one call I ask you to pass
this message on, or tell anyone you think relevant via any means so that
this does not occur in silence.

Minarets & Wedding Bells

mcrider@liberty.uc.wlu.edu Tue Feb 21 16:54:37 1995

   - Dave did his best to further the Valentine's Day romantic theme...Killer
Lover and Say Goodbye...On my way out of the show, my date and I found
ourselves in front of a man in the act of proposing to his girlfriend,
down on one knee, ring in hand, with 25 or so people silently waiting for
her answer under the big DMB marquee. She said yes and cried and the
crowd gave applause and it was very happy just being there.

That was me!! I would like to thank all of you who graciously
congratulated my girl-friend and I as we remained locked in embrace under
the DMB marquee. I apologize I haven't written sooner but we were on
break here at W&L and I wanted to return and announce our engagement to my
friends personally.

I guess all of you are tired of hearing how wonderful the V-Day show was.
Though I agree it was a marvelous show, my girl-friend (who may be a little
bias) feels that I topped Dave. We stayed outside for what seemed only a few
minutes when Carter passed us among the crowd. He congratulated us and
signed our program which enticed us to remain on the corner of Sixth
and Grace until the entire band walked by. Though we never saw Stefan,
everyone else congratulated us including Dave. I must note that someday
Boyd and LeRoy will probably not be able to stand on the street corner for
five minutes waiting for a cab.

Anyway, I have tried to fill this with DaMaBa content though I normally
speak more of my performance Valentine's Night than of Dave's. Thanks again
to all of you that asked if we needed pictures taken or cheered my girl-friend
to saw yes. (Though I have a feeling she would have said yes anyway.)

I met the man himself...AGAIN

HvyHead@aol.com Tue Feb 21 17:19:59 1995

Due to the tremendous response I had from my last post, and thank you to
everyone that did, I thought I would share this story with you also. At
Syracuse, after meeting some fellow minareters and a great show, I was able
to go backstage and visit the band again. Well it turns out that Boyd was
still wearing my necklace, but Dave wasn't! It broke! AGHHH! So I promised
him a new one and he was so cool about it. He ridiculed me a little, but was
extremely greatful for what I did. He is definitely one of the nicest guys I
have ever met and can pick on me anytime he wants. He was wearing those funky
shoes from the Symphony show still, they are so cool. He also said that they
were bringing back some older songs like Drive in Drive out! But, he also
mentioned that they don't know if they are doing HORDE this summer or
anything. They are keeping it open because they may go overseas! Oh well, I
guess we have to wait and see...

Thanks for listening ...... Heavy Head

Don't hate me cause I wear flannels or because even when I'm standing on a
chair I'm still not as tall as Jeff Peters! And anyone who is still waiting
for a response from me, it will be there soon. I actually had to attend
classes today if you know what I mean. That's all...

Help-- Drew U. students (No DMB content)

girdleyj@LAFAYETT.BITNET Tue Feb 21 17:22:41 1995

If anyone out there would be able to help me get two or more tickets to the
Blues Traveler concert at Drew U. for March 23rd I would make it worth their
effort. I am sorry for getting off of the DMB subject here, but the tickets
are only on sale to Drew people and posting on the BT net wouldn't do much
good as those people are probably scrambling just to get tickets for
themselves if they already go to Drew. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

a humble apology. . .

RHOFHEIMER@CENTER.COLGATE.EDU Tue Feb 21 18:08:35 1995

Okay, I admit it, I completely dropped the ball.
song from here, I erroneously posted that they played it and then moved into
#36.
Dave started to play a very mellow, beautiful song while the rest of the badn
sat back and enjoyed it. I strained to understand some of the lyrics, knowing
I'd never heard the song before. Before Carter joined in I distinctly heard
(and, for that matter, probably heard the wrong lyric). They then went onto a
great #36 (see my earlier post).
Once again, sorry if I got people's blood wrongly pumping.
Clare, I trust you'll survive.

Landmark, amazing!!

goldberg@rochgte.fidonet.org Tue Feb 21 20:37:22 1995

Just got back from Syracuse to see Dave at Landmark, it was intense!! BHT
wasn't anything spectacular, they had a couple good jams, but nothing
compared to Dave. Boyd was going ape-shit! Leroi was amazing! There
was a pretty cool Ants, and Lie in our Graves also was amazing. To
think of it, everything was amazing! Wasn't there supposed to be a
meeting in the Lobby? I couldn't find you guys. Doesn't matter. Is
anyone going to the Rochester show on the 27th? Did anyone tape last
nights show or plan to tape the 27th? I would trade anything to get my
hands on last nights show! Also, Jamie Notarthomas had a pretty cool
show afterwards at Styleens. Unfortunately, the lead singer from Ugly
Americans insisted on playing a solo tune piss-ass drunk. I couldn't
stay for the whole thing, but Jamie sounded great! Just to clarify any
rumors, after having talked to Jamie and his Management, I found out
that Jamie and Dave are NOT friends. Jamie and BHT are. They toured
together a while ago. Anyway, the crowd really got into the show, and
thats what really counts. The rest of the band really fed off the
energy the crowd was radiating, and that made the show amazing. Please
drop me a note if you had made a copy of the show!!

Later-

That way, nobody can capture me.....They can use the hell out of me, but
there ain't too much they can do to me. They can mess me up, play the
wrong note, they can play a C, but they can't really destroy a C. All
it is, is a tone...So I'm gonna come back as a note.

I'm seeing them in Pittsburgh on the fifth, I can't wait!
I saw Jamie in Buffalo, NY about 5 or 6 years ago, he was pretty good

Just wondering!

ps- on mtv news, there was a brief excerpt where dave was talking about

Re: Bad Trader

<@dungeon.Microserve.Net:Merta@Microserve.com> Wed Feb 22 00:35:11 1995

First of all I would like to say I dont read this list anymore because of all
the bull (is Dave gay? ect. ect.) But a friend of mine recently forwarded me a
post from Mr. Dominic Sagolla from Swathmore. It said that I was a bad trader.

I would like to clear this up since I still trade with many nice people on this

In late Nov I posted a tape offer of the 10-1-94 show at the TLA in Philly. The
offer was that the first four people who emailed me I would spin them up a copy
of this show right from dat. I made it very clear in the offer that you must
send the blank and return postage. I also specified in the offer that you must
send a 110 minute tape since the show fit perfectly on it (this was to make my
life easier since I can make multipple copies at once).

Well I got a huge response and ended up taking 8 people. Everbody except Mr
Sagolla did what I had asked. Instead of sending a blank 110 and return
postage (about $1). He sent me 2 90s (one of them a retread) and no return
postage. First of all if I'm am going to spin a first gen show for somebody
I'm surely not going to put it on a retread. I feel that the music is too
important to be treated that way and that my time is too valuable (I do have a
life besides taping).

Second of all he sent two 90s instead of the specified 110. Like I said my
time is too valuable. (I dont mean to sound like a dick but when somebody is
offering you something for nothing you should at least follow directions) I
must say that everybody else on this offer followed directions and got a pretty
quick turnaround.

I probably would of forgot about the first two mistakes except Mr Sagolla made
the biggest mistake of them all. He forgot to include return postage. Since I
do many tape offers on phish net I have a standing policy on no postage. That
is that your tapes will not be done till your postage arrives. And then they
are low on priority. When I recieved the package I emailed Mr Sagolla that I
didn't recieve any postage and that his tapes wouldnt be done till I recieved
the postage. He replied back that he would send the postage out right away.
Well I still havent recieved his postage.

Well I didnt hear from Mr Sagolla for months untill I posted to this net a
question about the DMB show at PSU. It seems that Mr Sagolla lost my email
address. Well he quickly emailed me and I told him that I never recieved the
postage. Anyway we set it up so that he could pick up his tapes at the PSU
show by the sbd since I would be taping that show. So I went out and bought a
metal 110 tape so I wouldnt have to carry two tapes in my dat bag. I went to
the show and guess what? Mr Sagolla never showed up to pick up his tape. I
didnt email him after the show since I felt it wasnt my job to chase this kid
down to get his tape. If he wanted it he would of picked it up.

Is this "Bad Trader" stuff my fault? I think not. I could care less if Mr
Sagolla got his tapes at this point. I just dont want my name dragged through
the mud for a shitty reason.

ny more tape offers. You seem very unorganized. I pity the people you trade
with.

MERTA@microserve.com
dominic@sccs.swarthmore.edu (I never lost his address)

ps And people wonder why more tapers dont post tape offers to the net.

ok, let's flame each other!

i was just in the middle of apologizing to you, man, and now i'm pissed off.

ok, i'm sorry about the postage. i sent it to you, though, and if you
don't have it, argue with the postal service.

i'm not going to get all huffy about your message, cause i still want
that show. but, if you take too much offense at my message (which i
consider REALLY mild), then i'll apologize again.

i admit that i was new to the trading scene when i set up the trade.

so, let's stop insinuating about each other's trading habits.
forgive and forget? do you still want postage? just let me know.

personally.

OBLIGATORY DMB CONTENT (for those of you who have read past all this
personal junk): the boys DO read minarets. their tour manager prints
out the important ones for them to read. keep that in mind when you post...

All Dave on MTV news

jag1@cornell.edu Wed Feb 22 01:38:43 1995

THe entire MTV news segment at 9:55 pm tonight dealt with Dave. It talked
about them and Blues Traveller on House of Blues. Then, Tabitha Soren said
something about Dave and the Internet, plugging his thing tomorrow night on
MTV online. There was then a clip with Dave talking about his fans on the
net!!! He said, something like "They post our setlists and tell us to play
this song or that song and say we suck if we don't let them backstage."
There was more of the short interview, but I don't remember it. The
segment closed with a live clip of them playing Dancing Nancies. It was
pretty cool. Hopefully someone else saw it and remembers it in much more
detail. Pretty exciting though.

HIV rumor...not

EDOHERTY@MACALSTR.EDU Wed Feb 22 02:54:32 1995

Look folks, the reason you hear a rumor such as, "Dave has HIV," is because
there are certain people who are not too accepting of certain sexual
orientations. When someone of the hateful sort hears that someone else "may"
be gay they automatically think that person has AIDS or HIV+. The rumors always
follow one another. One person will say that Dave is gay/bi and then someone
else will say they heard a rumor that Dave has AIDS. Every time I hear that a
famous person is gay I also hear that person has AIDS or is HIV positive.
Think about it a minute. It is a rare case indeed when you hear a rumor that a

Why do you hear this about Dave Matthews instead of Trey Anastasio. There is
no reason for us to think that a possible blood transfusion that Trey may have
had 4 years ago would make him HIV positive. We know that he has a wife and
everything seems pretty cool with him. Why would you start hearing rumors that
he is HIV+....you wouldn't! There is no reason for us to think he is. On the
other hand, the possibility that Dave is bisexual congures up certain
prejudices and "things we know about gay people." Pretty soon you hear a rumor
that Dave is HIV positive. It is as simple and stupid as that.

Peace!

hello out there in tv land

bmking@mail.wm.edu Wed Feb 22 04:27:06 1995

so kind.

what's a good 4am snack food?

gosh.. almost started reminiscing. can't do that.

any of you on voicemail ever have a message for your roomate who has a so and
is at their room all the time and the damn little blinky won't go off? it's
a real pain. honest.

jackopierce sent out free videos. got one the other day.. kinda neat.

ok, well, 2 dave things to say..
1 - the band should take a break. listening to old tapes, the "passion" is
NOT there. I love em dearly and would see em again and again.. but lately
they've been sounding like a routine, and not an explosive force. people
change, bands change.. write new stuff, figure out how to play it and what
to sing on stage.. those were beauties.

2 - i forgot. oh yeah. oh well, nevermind. it was about the net. exactly.

4:20am.. too late to go to sleep, too early to stay up..

you know what one of the coolest things about having a cdrom is? you can
play audio cds and wav files at the same time.. right in the middle of
halloween you can stick in "DEATH awaits you all... with nasty big pointy
teeth!".. wooo..

could i have been, a dancing benny..

you know what's great about standardized tests? exactly.

btw, is anyone currently on the net actually maintaining the faq, adding new
stuff, revising, all that groovy stuff?

who WAS ben #1 and who was #2? was s before t or t before s? inquiring
minds want to remember..

i've watched the video several more times, and it does grow on you. or it
did on me. but now i have this odd cassette-shaped appendage hanging off my
left elbow.. it's a real nuisance.

**bad POSTer alert**

KOLIVER1@UA1VM.UA.EDU Wed Feb 22 08:08:32 1995

all right dominic......thats it
look....
you wanted to do things with patrick
via personal mail...right??? well, the
last one from you was what belonged in personal
mail.......that was fucking totally unnecessary...

let me point out a few things......first...
you have every right to call
a bad trader alert.......usually they are done with a little
more sense, but every person has their free speech....

as for patrick's reply to the net.......
that was totally and COMPLETELY justified......
NO one should EVER refuse the right of someone to explain
their side.....got it???

im not even on the net anymore, and people are
*forwarding* this shit to me because it's getting so rediculous.....
your last one.......THAT had no place on the net, we already know
you disagree with him per your first post.......

and he wasnt necessarily trying to flame you.....he was
explaining his side.......and i am posting this for one reason......

as the administrator of a few trees on this net, i have put
patrick in charge of distributing tapes to a lot of people, and
i do not want anyone getting the wrong impression.........
about patrick......ok?

if he is a bad trader, then it should be mentioned......
but if anyone thinks he is not, then that MUST be mentioned too.....

and YOU are the one who fucked up the generous offer he made
......you dont have 110's?.....go buy some.....he ws trying to do
people a favour......and 110's are available everywhere.....

and i highly doubt the us postal system lost postage
that should have been inside the envelope............

when he explained his side, he was doing so because he thought he
had a point......and he deserves the right to say his say....

and i will back it up until i see a rational and legitimate
reason not too..........i am still happy to have patrick
as a top level branch on my trees...but if you dont want to deal
with him, tell me..........

Seeing Dave (Kathryn Ammerman Look Here)

<@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU:JCOHEN.95@DIANA.HCHS.HUNTER.CUNY.EDU> Wed Feb 22 10:28:07 1995

In the last digest I found a post from Kathryn Ammerman asking about
the chances of meeting Dave at the NY shows. I thought I should share
my story with all of you.
I was at the show on 9-30-94, also at Roseland. It had been a long
day, so about half way through the show, my friend and I almost
collapsed of exhaustion, so we went to the back to sit and relax a
little. We were sitting of to the side, near the back doors by the
bar, when a big guy walked over to us and asked us if we had passes.
Neither of us had any clue what he was talking about. We said no.
Then he handed us two VIP passes. Oh boy, were we excited. The only
problem was that we did not know what the could do. We ended up
watching the rest of the show from up on teh side stage, where the
press people sit. No one stopped us from taking down some of the
UTTAD posters that were on the walls. It was amazing. At the end of
the show, we srill were not sure what else the passes could do. So
we showed them to one of the security guys and he directed us to the
back bar. In other words, we had no troulbe getting into the after
show/back bar party. We sat for a few minutes, and then realized we
were probably very out of place. So we got up to leave, and literall
WALKED INTO DAVE!!! It was neat. He chatted with us for a few

Dave speak in Syracuse

drcraver@mailbox.syr.edu Wed Feb 22 11:11:40 1995

Someone was looking for the set to the HORDE show in Syracuse and was
wondering if anyone caught Dave mentioning at Mon. nights show that when
they played here last it was to the dudes setting up the porta-johns....

good time at the show, pretty important factor in the logevity and
vitality of a band don't you say?

Dave also commented on how nice of a theatre it is. That is the major
consensus, real classy place.

Someone saw mics in the balcony, I saw them on the floor. If you got'em,
share'em.

end of the set w/ guitar over head? Would be a poster in my house if you
did.

peace all, Dan

"Why is it that if you are slim, tidy, dress well, and are neat that
everyone thinks that you're gay? . . . Not that there's anything wrong
with that!"

DMB on WNEW 102.7 today and a preparty

SHOWTIME/SNINETFRM2/yangj%Viacom@mcimail.com Wed Feb 22 11:58:29 1995

I just found out that DMB will be in the WNEW (102.7 FM) studios live at
5:00 PM. I'm guessing that Dave will perform some acoustic stuff and answer
some phone calls. Sounds pretty cool.

Also for all those people attending the show at Roseland on
Friday...preparty at a nearby bar called McCoy's (nice little Irish bar) on
9th Avenue between 51st and 52nd Steets. Marianne Bakia, Gavin Leo-Rhynie,
and I will be there before the show downing a few pints. So please feel
free to join us. I was going to have the preparty at my apartment in
Chelsea but I don't think my roommates would have appreciated that. But
McCoy's is a cool place. Hope to see you all there (including all you
Columbians). It will be a cool hang.

If anyone can suggest a better place, I'm open but I thought I'd take the
initiative.

yesterday. How did you do on your exam? So I hear you might be coming down
to NYC for our birthday. Oh Yeahhhh!!! Send me a line. Send me some
tapes! I hear you're racking up quite a collection.

MTV News 2/21/94

afn06030@freenet.ufl.edu Wed Feb 22 12:14:16 1995

Last night while I was seeing how fast I could flip through the channels
I had an eerie feeling that I should stop at MTV when their "news"
segment came on. They had an interview with Dave where he talked about
minarets.net. He said he knew nothing about computers, but that there
was a group that all they did was talk about setlists, tapes , and
reviews of shows (whether good or bad). So minarets gets a mention on
MTV, is this good? Knowing how MTV is, they will probably show this
piece 300 times over the next few days, see if you can catch it.

MTV News/safety pop man

<@uvmvm.uvm.edu:RTOOLE@MUSIC.CC.UGA.EDU> Wed Feb 22 14:41:05 1995

I was flipping through the channels this morning and as I passed MTV
I saw a familiar face. No dought it was Dave. I only caught the end
of the segment so all I got was Tabitha saying "Dave and his band
just recently played a valentines show with the Richmond Symphony
Orchestra and is now on tour..." (or something like that)
Cant wait for Letterman this Friday, I'm not even going to try to
predicte what they'll play(WWYS).

If anyone out there was wondering what happened to the safety pop
guy(Dave Toole from Auburn, my brother). Well he moved out to
Colorado and should be back on the net anytime.

Dont worry I'm not going to say anything about this HIV thing
I'm just praying that it is not true.

censorship petition

AMZENDEL@unca.edu Wed Feb 22 16:58:33 1995

please ignore the self-righteous tone of this and see what it has to say.

Hello everyone...

I know it been a while since I've been seen on the net, but I've
been a little bit busy. However, a matter has come to my
attention that is of the utmost importance to all of us online.

Simply put, a couple of senators have proposed a particularly
heinous piece of legislation titled the "Communications
Decency Act of 1995" (Senate Bill S. 314). Basically, the
bill would subject all forms of electronic communication --
from public Internet postings to your most private email --
to government censorship. The effects of the bill onto the
online industry would be devastating -- most colleges and
private companies (AOL, Compuserve, etc.) would probably have
to shut down or greatly restrict access, since they would be
held criminally liable for the postings and email of private
users.

Obviously, this bill is designed to win votes for these senators
among those who are fearful of the internet and aren't big
fans of freedom of speech -- ie., those who are always trying to
censor "pornography" and dirty books and such. Given the
political climate in this country, this bill might just pass
unless the computer community demonstrates its strength as a
committed political force to be reckoned with. This, my friends,
is why I have filled your mailbox with this very long message.

A petition, to be sent to Congress, the President, and the media,
has begun spreading through the Internet. It's easy to participate
and be heard -- to sign it, you simply follow the instructions
below -- which boil down to sending a quick email message to a
certain address. That's all it takes to let your voice be heard.
(You know, if the Internet makes democracy this accessible to the
average citizen, is it any wonder Congress wants to censor it?)

Finally, PLEASE forward this message to all your friends online.
The more people sign the petition, the more the government will
get the message to back off the online community. We've been doing
fine without censorship until now -- let's show them we don't plan on
allowing them to start now. If you value your freedoms -- from
your right to publicly post a message on a worldwide forum to your
right to receive private email without the government censoring it --
you need to take action NOW. It'll take fifteen minutes at the most,
a small sacrifice considering the issues at hand. Remember, the age
of fighting for liberty with muskets and shells is most likely over;
the time has come where the keyboard and the phone line will prove
mightier than the sword -- or the Senate, in this case.

Yours in liberty,

            -don

Re: uhhhh

jrbolton@COLBY.EDU Wed Feb 22 17:05:02 1995

strengths and weaknesses. R2T has cool jams and a couple of REALLY cool
songs, but I think the overall songwriting is a little more mature of
UTTAD. The arragements are also much more sophisticated (the advantage of
doing a studio album) than R2T and the lyrics are much darker (which I
think is pretty cool but that's just my preference). Of course, R2T has a
MUCH better version of Ants as well as Minarets, Seek Up, and Christmas
song which all kick extreme amounts of ass. Uhh, so anyway, I guess my
point is that they are both awesome. Okay, I'll shut up now.

Hey all, just caught (and taped) the boys on WNEW here in NYC.
They did Tripping Billies, Pay For What You Get, Dancing Nancies,
and WWYS, all acoustic.

Well, besides the usual Dave drivel btwn. songs, no other interview or
call in questions. Kind of lame, but I guess that's all the time they
allotted them.

Furthermore, Dave went on to talk about the Letterman show Friday nite
and, yup, you guessed it, WWYS is the song they plan on playing. So for
all you speculators out there, no need to speculate further....

at the HORDE. Well, I was one of about seven (no joke) fans there for the
DMB set at the Syracuse HORDE show and they were awesome. They even played
a song for my friends and I (Jimi Thing. UTTAD wasn't out yet) and we hung
out with Boyd after the set. Anyway, I thought it was amazing how they
could go from playing in front of seven people to playing in front of a
sold out crowd of a few thousand IN THE SAME CITY IN JUST FOUR MONTHS!!
Had no one in the central New York area heard of Dave Matthews band in late
August? I guess not. I know that DMB's popularity has really exploded, but
has anyone else noticed such a drastic increase in attendance. I know the
demographics of the audience has changed, but I'm talking about numbers.
If you were at both the HORDE show and Monday's show, you would know what
I'm talking about. Is this phenomenon unique to central New York, or does
this happen elsewhere? Just wondering.

school style with all the extended jams of yester-year! Jimi was 11min long
and #36 was truly my highlight! throughout the whole night they were playing
their hearts out, so that dispelled any machinations i've been hearing about
stagnation for me. the set was 90min long, so that's better than last month.
rest of the guys didn't come in when they used to. dave played the chords and
then added those marvelously ethereal lyrics which i can never understand. he
stretched it out for a while and then they launched into the song. i was
standing behind bagby and he seemed amused with the huge smile on my face!
don't worry Rob, i thought i heard him say "by the blue water" too, that's just
dave's rambling-lyrics-mode. i was confused at first because it sounded like
he was playing the chords to Say Goodbye but at a speed and rhythyn much more
akin to blue water. i had no clue how they would segue that into Say Goodbye,
and what do you know? they didn't. Carter ripped into his funky solo and the
jubilant sounds of #36 leaped out at us. Heavy Head and I were doing our best
to dance our asses off to make up for the majority of the crowd which stood
around and wondered what cd this was on. I asked Boyd about this intro
afterwards and he said it was something dave has been doing for a while now.
(?) who knows.

has now been given "most favored netter trading status" since he hooked me up
with an aftershow pass. you're teh greatest man! As he posted earlier...dave
commented on some old ones. I asked about Drive In Drive Out and he said they
had worked on it that day and it was coming back soon. someone else asked
about spotlight and so much to say, but he said those weren't the same without
peter. he said he loves to listen to those old shows, though. he also
mentioned something about some new material so maybe that mystery intro is a
new tune for us. we'll have to wait and see!
who got to our net gathering. it was cool to meet you guys! if anyone out
there wants to do a similar thing at an upcoming show, do it! it was fun and
very easy to set up.

ps ok, I'm tall as hell! but that's why i think that sig is so cool!

NH college thoughts

seek up
dancing nancies
lie in graves
what would u say
jimi thing
rhyme & reason
ants
satellite
watchtower

-Well, what can I say, Dave gave us the "meat" but didn't give me any gravy.
Lie in ours graves was nice- although it got no response from the crowd. The
crowd was pleased, they heard what they wanted... I yelled hard for granny
but Dave just didn't hear me. The band seemed drained, just going through
the motions but, a show is a show and I'll jump at any opportunity to see
the band- pleased if they are 'on' or not.
-The guy who was selling the merchandise had a fire-dancer necklace- it was
nice. He said that he got it the night before from someone backstage- I
couldn't really understand him. Dave didn't have one on- It was already
mentioned that it broke. Dave did have on a silver cresent-like necklace
that contrasted nicely with his pinky-red shirt. -ZAC
