listening to this show (Lafayette College, 2/25/95, one reason at least 
why I shouldn't have left PA)...  And I remember laying there just 
drifting off and thinking how great it would be to make love to Blue 
Water...

So the song and the show date sorta stuck in my head...
and this was just the day before yesterday, or close to it, so I knew 
they'd played Blue Water this year...

OK, y'all, where do I have to get to to see Sratchin Jones?  Y'all talk 
about them every three posts, so how fars the drive, what's the 
schedule.  I've got a free coupla weeks comin up...

I'm giving that Leaf of mine for Roseland until I get back from Rome to 
get in touch with me, and that's another four weeks, and I'm figuring 
that's sufficient.  (Whitney Tuttle, this means you!!)

Was reading the Sesame Street posts, and I'll have to agree with whoever 
said that Animal was king, although in my book, Elmo comes in either 
right with or just behind him.  I used to have an Elmo figurine, but when 
I moved, we lost it.  Tragic bereavement.

Honestly though, the best Jim henson characters had to be the guys who had
horns for noses and they went around hitting their noses and jumping up and
down and laughin' and groovin' and just plain bein happy!  They were cool. 
Double mint cool.  no, wintergreen cool.  no, creme de menth cool.  yeah they
were creme de menthe cool.
the compound words?  One head would say one part of it then the other head and
they would talk faster and faster until they were saying one word.

Muppets, Fraggles, and a litttle sumpin'sumpin'

All I got to say is this.......



any one remember that song?

Oh well!  My dos pesetas on who ruled as the best muppet(which includes all
sesame street characters and fraggles as well as the original muppet cast)
is I believe a toss up between the trash heap from Fraggle rock, or
possibly the little beetle family the ernie kept on his window sill in an
old milk carton...did anyone else notice they never could get out of their
house or make any simple decisions.......possible side effects of smoking
too much dope?  or maybe they were always high whenever ernie was peeping
through their windows?

I would like to know who was y'alls favorite guest on the show(i.e; famous
person to sing a song with a muppet)?  Mine would HAVE to be the ever
classic Ray Charles doing Bein' Green with Kermit....'cause you know, it's
not easy being green! DAMNIT!!!!



OH!!!!!! I just remembered another excellent muppet.........please someone
out there remember him........CAPTAIN VEGETABLE!!!!!!!!! (with his carrot

Minarets T-shirts?

Don't get mad at me if this idea seems stupid or whatever -cause it's 

This year in my art class at the University of British Colombia I was 
able to choose anything I wanted to paint.  Well I couldn't resist Dave's 
fire dancer drawing - so you could say - I "sampled" it and gave credit 
where credit was due.  Anyways, I was just glazing at my painting and I 
thought came to me that it would be cool if there were some kind of 
design drawn by Dave himself, any band member, or even a fellow artistic 
minareter - to make stylin' Minaret T-shirts.  I don't know how to go 
about doing this exactly - but I just thought it might be kinda fun for 
those who might be interested like myself.

help ID show ancd get a copy frree

Ok, I got a copy of a great show some time ago, but there are a couple
of problems with it.  First of all, Watchtower and True Reflections got
cut off early, and that really sucks, but that's ok, because it is really
a great show.  The second problem is that I don't know the date of the
show, but It was done at the Georgia Theatere in Athens.  The last problem
is that it has two songs that I don't know the real names of.

hey, how many people think beth's id looks like she just took her

about meeting famous people and tell the stories, but since sandy
decided to take it personally and leave (trust me, i didn't ask him
to go) and in the processs make me in control (respects payed to
clare, of course), i'm gonna share a dave story......weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee






anywya....

i interviewed dave one time for wxjm harrisonburg (i alos interviewed
everthing, but my silly news director went and lost the tape), and
while we were setting up the microphones and stuff he sat there playing
lie in our graves making up lyrics and all.  it was pretty keen gear.

anyway, at one point the microphone, which was on a boom hanging in
dave's face, begins to fall down slowly, about 3 inches a second,
until it's resting on his kneee (we weren't on the air yet) and (i
won't tell you he was playing my guitar, because really pretentious
and all) he said "it's sort of like when you get nervous with a girl."

(he was talking about eh microphone.)

(did i mention he was playing my guitar [sound of rick smacking himself

anyway, that's my dave story.  i have others, but i've told them afore.
so i won't bore you like that.

  There was a time when everyone on this net KNEW and CARED and DISCUSSED
 issues related to DMB.  I'm ashamed to say that times have changed things
 around here for the worse. More than half of the posts have no DMB content
 and come from immature teeny-boppers who like the band just because they are
 on MTV and the "cool" radio stations.

Ummm....
I'm going to have to bust you on this...
These posts have DMB content...if you've been reading them, you'd 
understand how.
As far as "immature teeny-boppers" and the like...
Well, all I can say is that these people (Rick, et. al. ) were the first 
Minaretters.  Just because a post doesn't ask for a show or an extra 
doesn't mean it lacks DMB content.  We're all here, trying to be friendly 
and get along, tied by the fact that we love the band.  We're a 
community.  We like each other.  Please try to deal.

That's all thats been running through my mind for the past couple of hours. 
Don't you all just love those random moments of being brain dead.  been there
for a couple of hours.  
Two exams a day is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much, especially greek and logic.  My
mind is fried.

OK, nough said there.

I just recently found an old box of GooGooClusters someone gave me a long time
ago.  Man those things are sick.  Yeah, wouldn't it be cool to sit down with
some GooGoo's and some Moon Pies and watch old HeeHaw reruns.  That wopuld be a
typical day at home, if I were there.  Home is just south of Nashville and I
swear the vast majority of the people there would say that that would be a
great way to spend thew afternoon.  And I would say, "Go for it.  If that's
what makes you joyful"  I have no idea where this is going so I will shut up.

Kev-If you are craving PopTarts that bad, I's got a case in my room that you
arew welcome to.  Never eat 'em.  Actually there almost gone, but there are
still some left.

Oh well, I'll shut up.  Lates and spoons and GooGoo's and Moon Pies and HeeHaw

I was gonzo in a second grade play once, purple nose, feet, but
looked little like gonzo.  I was more blure than purple, I
think the costume is actually at home still, but I doubt it
still fits.

Ted Elmore is a kick ass trader.  Equally as kick-ass is
Shafteeeeeeee Kulp, (Clarification needed for the proliferation
of shafts here.)  

thesis revisions and final binders are due in 36 hours.  I love
E-school, speaking of, Hey Dom from ND, I'm a Chem E. Too, and
hate it.

8/13/94, but my stub is on my desk, and I have no calender in
sight, but it was the second saturday in August.  I should
know, I read about it.  SPeaking of, what a neat day, not to
hot or too cold, cool fishing, saw at least 30 dolphin
(mammal) and ran with them for at least half an hour.

no, i've not been a retter since the beginning, but i know people who have, and
my understanding of it was that it was a source of communication for people who
had something in common, a love for some kick ass music.  but that doesn't
constrain us to only write about the initial interest that got us on here. 
it's called a free country, enjoy it (smile, no flames intended).  also, i
apparently overlooked in the minarets by-laws (part III, section IV) about not
posting 5 times in the same day. sorry if i broke it. (again, just some sarcasm
here, not critical flaming.

"sesame street" or something you may not be interested in, just delete it and
move until you find "i love dave" or "tapes" or whatever. we're talking about a
loss of, oh, 3..4 seconds.  time's precious, but come on... again, this is not
meant in a "flamatory" manner, nor directed at any one individual.  just food

slimed.  And another good nick show was Mr. Wizard's World.  He had all those
dorky kids on. (Who knows if that was really his house, and what were those kids

dave is a short guy.

depending on who he's standing next to.  he's taller than most
of his band (except for mister 8 ft tall cowboy hatless man)

and he has a presence that will eat you alive if you ain't
careful.  i really think there's more "dave" to dave matthews
than there is "rick" to rick thompson (definitely) or "clare"
to clare clifford or just about anyone. 

and what's scary is that when he plays these days, he's playing
to over 5000 people a pop, and he's pulling them all in and
turning them around and saying "are you satisfied with fucking"
and they're all just staring and dancing and hoppeboppin and
what you have you see you have.  and he controls it.

so before anyone ever complains about dave getting to big, and
the horrible "s" phrase comes up (sellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll)
, keep in mind that he knows who he is what he is how he is and
he will.  he will...................

he may be fond enough of ants marching to make me sick of it,

OK, when I went to college, all the women on my hall kept telling me I 
looked just like one of the women on the Magic Garden... they could 
never remember the women's names, so I don't know which one.

Now, I had never _heard_ of the Magic garden.... this has always bugged 
me!  I've never gotten to see it, who on here's met me, who can confirm 
this?? anybuddy?

It is now my mission to see the Magic Garden.

There is aplace on campus here with a little turtle pond and lillies and 
tables and chairs, and we call it the secret garden, I am now going to 
call it the Magic Garden, until my mission is complete.

on the subject of seasame street i go to school with a girl who looks like
ernie from burt and ernie and she uses way to much hair spray and has an

oh and if you are on that tr3 tree with newyshack he said he hasn't gotten

Muppetvision 3D!!!

Anybody out there seen the Muppet 3D extravaganza (spelling??!) at MGM studios
at Disney World???  
I got two words  

Man they got the Swedish Chef runnin the projector screwing things up, they
got old muppet skits playing while you wait...they do all kinds of shit to
the audience...the 3D film kicks my ass....and they have Waldorf and Statler s
(thanks to all on the name thing) sitting in the balcony with the audience
making fun of the muppets, and they got that Eagle guy SAM?!!

You should all go visit MGM just for that (goddamn I sound like a commercial
call 1-800-WDISNEY) anyway, just thought I'd mention the best attraction in   
the world...spoons to all, and to all a good night...

Hey now,

Any of my fellow Virginians out there listen to Headstone Circus?
They're out of Richmond, so I imagine someone's heard of them.
We had this huge field party out here at ND today called Pig Tostal,
and they came out and played for us for about 3 hours...they were 
pretty good...definitely from the Phish/Dead cloth, with a lot of
Widespread thrown in, plus a bit of funk...3 of the guys wore skirts...
hippie-dippie-doos...Played a great cover of Eyes of the World, complete
with sax....

just wondering if anyone had any opinions of them...figure they'll
be gettin exposure sooner or later...THC, remember that.

Also, I got into an interesting discussion with some drunk jerk in
the ride home today...he thinks Dave Matthews is bisexual because
it will help him sell more records...good thing I'm a pacifist, or
I woulda hit him...what a moron....what are some people spreading 
out there?  Serious BS, it sounds like...I hate some of the 
narrow-mindedness that comes with a place like ND...but you gotta
love the football team :-)

Time to go, but one last message for any deadheads out there (including
whomever it was that had so many disparaging things to say about the 
greatest live band in the world)...they just announced the June 30
show will be in Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium..mailorder starts
May 1 (a VERY VERY SPECIAL DAY...21 reasons I have for that!)

While we're on the subject of You Can't Do That on Television...
There were always the regulars, like Lisa and Christine and Alistaire 
(sp?) and Kevin Kubechesky, but does anyone remember a girl named Alexis 
that was only on for a bunch of episodes?  Gawwwwd, did I have a crush on 
her!  That show was on at 3:30 in the afternoon when I was growing up, 
and I'd run home from school to catch it...those were the days...
What was it called when things went backwards from the way they should 
for like a minute or two?  Like, if you said "I know" instead of "I don't 
know," you would get slimed?  And the kids wanted to be in school, 
instead of hating it??  I'm drawing a big blank!
Anyone remember when they had the contest for someone to go on the show 
and get slimed??  Boy did I want that!!

Yeah, I am a DMB newbie...I have been listening to RTT since last spring, 
and UTTAD since it came out, but I am new to this whole live Dave thing.  
So, I have some dumb questions to ask...
1)  What is a bagby?  I the context I have seen it, it seems to refer to 
a live tape...
2)  On my only DMB tape, the 2/24 Roseland show, Dave sings two lines from 
Norwiegan Wood inside of Pay For What you Get...is this a normal occurrance?
3)  Is it just me, or is Best of What's Around one of the most 
inspirational songs you've heard in a while?

maybe a "middlie"...... it *is* a live tape....Jeff Bagby is the sound

generous folk himself.....a term of endearment for a *swell* guy...

Georgia Theater Show 2/5/94 thanks you and info

I now know that the show I asked about from the Georgia Theater
was from 2/5/94 - and the tape I have is apparently not fully correct
in that I have satellite instead of dancing nancies and WWYS.  I also
did not know about the haloween encore.

I received info about the show from at least 10 people in less than
an hour or so.
a big thank you to all of these folks for their info and amazingly
quick response to my question.


I also filled my newbie offer of 2, and just for good measure and
a good feeling, I added 3 more to make a grand total of five.
being as such, the newbie offer is now closed.  sorry to those who
are digestified as I think it filled up before the digest went out.

still break into song every once in a while....okay more than every once in
a while.... almost every day, I'd say.

Although, it's not quite as catchy as (obdc) "This song's about makin' love

Animal Physiology is kicking my ass, and I needed a study break to tell 
of the philosophy and ways of SPAM, and throw in a few Monty Python 
quotes, because that is waht is going through my head as I read the 
textbook. 

I'm not old school like keith and ben and clare. Iguess I don't have the 
right to write this craziness, but oh well.

was made aware that I offered a newbie thing...very good, brah, you're 
learning...send me blanks and I'll definitely tape you any two shows you 
want...teach others!

that's pretty funny...cause I sat here and thought to myself...I didn't 
post a newbioe offer??!!! heh heh good job! don't try that with keith, 
though, he gets nervous when you just randomly say :'about those tapes 
you offered"

okay, DMB related story for ya...

It all started when I was visiting my friends from Vtech two summers ago. 
This friend of mine, Andrea (pronounced Ahn-DRAY-uh) whips out this CD

listening to the album, there's this guy, and he sounds a little bit 
wimpy, with kind of a high voice and stuff (and I'm like 450% deadheadat 
the time, 
and anything that doesn't sound like Jerry is like BLEAH)...so several 
beers and things later, I look at the cover...I MEAN LOOK AT IT, right? 
and there's like this hand comin out like givin me the peace sign...so I 
start screeching "holy shit, there's a hand in there and its three dee!!!!"
and 'drea (DRAY-uh) laughs and says, yeah, isn't that cool? So I start 
listening to the lyrics 'cause anyone that puts this shit on their cover 
must be COOL!

So I start paying attention around ...jane likes (which is like #3 in my 
favorite all-times, behind typ sit and granny...and maybe bluewater) 

and I'm all fuzzed out, on various concoctions of beer, dope, smack, and 
barbituates...or something.

but this song like SINKS INTO ME, MAN 
and I'm like...whoa...this guy's pretty cool...then I see the name "Dave 
Matthews" and I say...yannow? I saw this guy by himself at Jokers once, 
but he didn't sound like this at all! he was kinda chillin around...but 
there was no band, certainly no violin player...and then i remebered 
that someone had said that Boyd Tinsley was joining up with Dave 
Mathews(YEAH, BT!),,,so I look inside and, sure 'nuff, there's a big, 
grinning BT of a guy on fiddle!
then i forgot about them almost completely until Blues Traveler got REAL 
BIG, and people started up a BT net...so I logged on, and this guy sent 
me two tapes...and I traded them off...and got more stuff.

so the thing is, this first show, which has since filtered its way to the 
bottom of my collection, was taped on TDK SA's and the quality ain't very 
good, but Root opened up for 'em.

if you can tell me where the show was, I'll send you the tape of your 
choice from my collection, this one or others...do some research, newbies! 
talk to people 
like Keith and Kelly Hale 'cause I think they know. First Newbie who can 
name that show...

a bunch of songs acoustic, and the taper got it on a battery-operated deck.
first ever "lost in the crowd" acoustic!

i went to see two great improv comedy teams last night. one of them 
(columbia's own six milks) kept asking for nouns from the audience to 
prompt their skits. the first one was "cheese." it was kewl.

getting up at 10 in the morning to be in a photo shoot for an 
admissions viewbook after too many strawberry daiquiris at Pi-Ki-Ki the 
previous evening, only to find that the shoot doesn't exist is NOT 
cool.(or kewl)

to the chewie@aol guy who said that people who post a lot about muppets, 
etc. are teeny boppers who found dave on MTV - these people are pretty 
much the founders of minarets who were around long before you. they do 
not own the net, neither does anyone else. you should feel free to post 
as much as you want or as little as you want. however, this forum is for 
*open* discussion of dave matthews band. i hate uninformed, irrelevant, 
and/or offensive posting as much as you do, but these posts are none of 
these. minarets used to be like this all the time back in october when i 
signed on, and though i was just learning about dave, i stayed on 
because the digests were fun to read. it was good to see all of these 
happy, smart, funny, creative people talking, sometimes about a band they 
loved, sometimes about nothing in particular. especially after seeing all 
of the flaming back then on phish.net and r.m.gdead. minarets would be 
very boring if it was only tourdates, tape trades, etc. i *do* agree that 
their could be more discussion about the aesthetics of dave's music, 
interpretations of lyrics, etc. may the force be with you.

my sister calls anything out of the ordinary "wookie". then again, wookie 
usually has good connotations for her.

to anyone who likes the movie, "the princess bride" - READ WILLIAM 
GOLDMAN"S BOOK! it's even better! "true wuv" wallace shawn is a great 
actor. 

i repeat my summer grovel - anyone in d.c. or in close proximity (NoVa, 
northwest, etc.) please mail me. i would really like to do some trading 
this summer, when i actually have time for it, and maybe see some shows 
with people. 

clare - john berryman went to my school (as did kerouac and ginsberg, 
though like most of the great people who went here, they dropped out). 
i'm cool now.

duh..i just had to respond to this one...i love animal and oscar the
grouch...everybody thinks i am weird to like the grouch better than the
bird....oh well....just wanted to let you know there are other grouchy lovers
out there....also responding to what character would dave be (jim
hensen)..that is a tough one because you have to consider all the ones, but
in my opinion dave would be....kermet..i really don't know why, but all the
other characters don't seem to fit him..oh well...

Dave and Death

You know, when you think about it, Dave's completely and utterly torn
apart and obsessed with death.  It's in every lyric of UTTAD.  Why?  Why
was he "23 and so tired of life, such a shame to throw it all away?"  Why
does he ask us to "read in whatever your needing to?"  Why should we "See
I'm leaving This warehouse frightens me Has me tied up in knots Soon I'm
going I'm slippin' slow away..."

Someone tell me why he's so obsessed with death.  He's miserable in this
life, and drinks, smokes and shoots up to get awayt from it.  Why?
Because of Anne?  I know he doesn't hate his lifestyle.  It "Tastes so
good...bags packed, on a plane."  My mind is wandering and I'm starting 
to read in whatever I'm needing to...
