5- Guys, who are you more excited to see on SNL - DMB or Courtney Cox?
    I think its a toss-up. ;-)

You're absolutely out of your mind. DMB is much more exciting than
 Courtney Cox. -Matt

4/11 Sunrise Musical Theatre show

GOTTLIEB@BU4090.BARRY.EDU Wed Apr 12 13:07:03 1995

A good time had by all. Boy, am I tired.

The opening act--Boxing Gandhis--tried hard but came off annoying and
similar to Rusted Root.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters were intense and amazing. I didn't keep a
set list, but they played Bittersweet, Stratagem, and my ultimate favorite
song...THe Moose Song. The audience went crazy during circle and
Voodoo Child.

Warehouse
Dancing Nancies
So Much to Say
("This is a song about being lost")Rhyme and Reason
Granny (with a cool ending)!
Jimi Thing
Typical Situation
Recently
Satellite
Ants

Trippin' Billies

I've never had a better time. They all played well, especially Dave and
Boyd who were having a great time from the way it looked through my
binoculars. Can't wait til the next tour!

Respectfully submitted,

ADAM

sorry, Deadheads, I'm not trying to be offensive at all, but compared to
the high energy stuff I've started to get into, 6 old men who forget the
words and take 55 minute setbreaks to tie off put me to sleep.

I don't think he had to *TRY* to be offensive. It just came naturally for him.

BANDS AT HORDE!

BWB9124@tntech.edu Wed Apr 12 15:19:50 1995

i posted yesterday the date for the show in Nashville TN. i dont have any other
tour info for HORDE though. i was lucky to stumble on what i did. about the DMB
playing HORDE, i dont want to start a rumor so i must say that i am not sure
that the DMB will be playing HORDE. i had heard that but i have recieved mail
from another minareter who heard from the band that other bands on the tour are
kind of stand offish and they don't want to. well i also heard that they are
playing in Europe this summer. that would make it hard to be touring the US
wouldn't it. i DO know that Blues Traveller, The Black Crowes, Hootie and the
Blowfish, are all playing. i also heard from a few that there is a slim chance
that Toad the Wet Sprocket will be playing. THAT IS NOT DEFINITE! well, i hope
this has helped you all and if you have any info for me on the bands that are
playing or anything on DMB playing, let me know, PEACE later,

SNL

nmayer@pen.k12.va.us Wed Apr 12 15:40:59 1995

As far as what Dave plays on SNL, I think he's allowed to play
whatever two songs he wants. They have 8 minutes and the
choice is up to the band themselves.

I doubt they will play anything not released though, but it
would be nice to see JIMI thang and maybe Lover lay down, or
Best.

brighten your day...

messierb@ucsub.colorado.edu Wed Apr 12 16:06:53 1995

My pal Jason sent me this one.

just had to forward this to everyone i knew...

                        NATURAL HIGHS
Falling in love. Having your 2:00 class cancelled on a beautiful day.
Laughing so hard your face hurts. Watching a child do something for the
first time after you taught them. A great idea. A scholarship. A hot
shower. No line at the book return. A hug. A special glance. Acting in
the theater. Tailgating on a warm Saturday. Clean sheets. Getting mail.
Walking your dog. Love. Listening to your walkman. Falling asleep in the
sun on a cool day. Taking a drive on a pretty road. Hugging a big
teddy bear. Playing miniature golf. Getting a strike in bowling. Catching
your soap on a Friday. Working on a successful project with a good friend.
Going out to dinner. Going out on a Saturday
night, coming home sober and having had a great time. Going dancing.
Listening to loud music. Lying in bed listening to
the rain outside. Walking out of your last final. Finding the sweater
you want is on sale for half price. A chocolate milkshake. Getting a good
grade. Oreo icecream. Finding out there is no final in a hard class.
Getting accepted to a program abroad. A long distance phone call. Birthday
cakes. Going to the movies. Your favorite lunch. Getting invited to
a dance. Being a senior. Clean laundry. Not having an 8:00 class. A
bubble bath. Giggling. Holding someone you love in front of
a fireplace. Being in love. Whitewater rafting. A ski trip. Seeing
someone you love do something outstanding. Making the winning score.
Rollercoasters. A Saturday shopping trip with a good friend.
Being told you did an excellenct job by your peers. Going home for
Thanksgiving break. Chocolate chip cookies. A care package. Seeing the
Grand Canyon. Sliding down a waterslide. Taking a walk singing Christmas
carols. Sledding during a fresh snowfall. Hearing a song that reminds
you of someone you love. Running your best time. Watching a beautiful
sunset. Hugging your mom or dad. Being yourself. Holding a kitten. When
your boss says "Perfect". When your dog jumps around because he is
happy to see you. When a friend says "You're someone special." A clear
day at the beach. Pay day. An unexpected present. Knowing someone
really understands. A suprise visit from a friend. Seeing a shooting
star. Fresh flowers. A special smile. Finding quarters for your
laundry. Solving a problem. Laughing at yourself. Watching a candle burn.
Saying "I love you".

                HAVING YOUR DREAM COME TRUE.

Peace

never fear...

beck74@potsdam.edu Wed Apr 12 16:59:28 1995

howdy all,

Just a quick note to let those of you who might need to know I will be
going home this weekend, and won't be able to email, so I'll talk to you
all Monday nite. In that post, I will have a newbie offer, and some
questions, that may or may not strike up a conversation here on the net.
Some other news, I have told you before of my past triumphs as music
DMB- Christmas Song and Ware house, etc. Now for a new one. I put Boxing
Ghandis on the playlist and myself and a few other DJs have gotten good
feedback about them.. So never fear, there is hope for the human race.
to other bands besides DMB. I think it's important we keep that up, and
that we do not flamr those who talk about other bands. I know this is the
DMB net, but lets be sympathetic and supportive of other bands.
on that note anyone interested in get a demo from a hot new band PIPE DREAM
just email me personally. And to those of you who already have, they are
on the way.
Thanks a lot... and lets show each other love....

Enough pablo-pukin' today....

seeing everything live on the internet

THOMPSRC@VAX1.ACS.JMU.EDU Wed Apr 12 17:09:43 1995

i'm not sure how well publicized this has been. decisions were just
made recently. i just wanted to let as many people as possible know
that the everything concert at james madison university will be
broadcast on the internet.

you need a special program--cu-seeme--available at cornell, and in
order to hear the concert you need a mac. the cu-seeme application
for pc's doesn't provide sound, from what i understand.

around 8 or 8:30. i wanted to post this to these two groups based
on the fact that this is pretty intense in terms of netting. i
know some grunge band (was it pearl jam?) did this last year, but
if you can check it out.

for detailed, _detailed_ instructions, send me a note, and i'll
try and forward you what i have before tomorrow night. i check
my e-mail fairly frequently, so if you get in touch with my by
five tomorrow night, i should be able to get the info to you with
stage.

keep in mind that to do this takes a fairly healthy knowledge of
the internet, ftp (or www), and your own computer. if your
internet access is through a modem, forget it; but if you have
access to a high speed connection (such as a mac in a secluded
lab on your campus, or maybe you're lucky enough to have a
direct connection) you should be able to work this out based on
the instructions i can forward you.

They will definitely play WWYS (grrrrrrrrrr) and probably ants. These two
songs seem to be their staple "play when under stressful situations" (ie
the mtv spring break special). Either way, I'll be happy to hear ants, and
i'll deal with WWYS, but I'd prefer much better songs, as i am sure
everyone else would as well.

DMB - Charleston - Awsome

76502.163@compuserve.com Wed Apr 12 22:54:46 1995

Please respond to this address, the account I'm posting with I NEVER read!

As my friends and I were walking up to the venue to pick up our tickets we
noticed that we parked in the "back-parking-lot." Boyd was just getting of
DMB's bus and he was talking to some guy that he said he knew from back
home. We introduced ourselves to Boyd (I talked to him about 3 weeks
ago on the phone). LeRoi and Boyd thought this was the hotel and the guy
told him it was the Citadel. Boyd asked where the showers were and the
guy told him there was none. So Boyd asked us if WE had a shower he
could use. We said Yeah, of course. We were about to go to our hotel.
So Boyd and all his luggage crammed into our car and trunk. On the way
to the hotel we talked about everything. Asked him bout the internet.
He said he has only read one stack of letters one time. I told him about the
people on this net that I thought were a little obsessed/overboard with the
whole thing. He seemed surprised when I was telling him about some of the
letters that I recalled reading on this thing. We talked about the whole Z100
thing. I explained what people were posting on this net. That they were selling
out and all that crap. He laughed about "selling-out." Talked about Europe.
New video (Ants Marching). Bunch of other stuff, too. At the room all of us
showered (not together) changed, ,etc.....Watched Sportscenter on ESPN for
a while, talked about basketball. Final Four stuff. From there we went to
Taco Bell and ate lunch. Took him back to the Citadel. We passed the
place where Jackopierce, BB King, and Freddy Jones were playing that
day, said he might check that out. We went to the concert that night. It was
AWESOME to say the least. Hot as anything in that place! Show rocked.
Enjoyed BHTM also, Boxing Gahdis was good for an opening band. Boyd
gave us some after show passes and we got to meet the guys. Everyone
that meets them says they are real nice and to tell you the truth that is an
understatement. They were ALL smiling, taking pictures, signing anything,
entertaining questions from people . These guys are truly one of the nicest
group of people you could ever meet. Unbelievable!, actually, how nice they
were. They were going out of their way to meet the people back there.
Saw Dave's GIRLFRIEND! I think that can put one of these rumors to sleep.
Since we knew no one would believe this story-we took pictures of
See-ya,
IF ANYONE HAS A TAPE OF THIS SHOW PLEASE RESPOND TO ME!!!!!!.

other bands were not to warm and kinda stand-offish, and it
wasn't that much fun other than the fact that they got to
play on the same stage as the Allmans. I am almost positive
about all this, at least it is what the Carter said. Later!

Question about #36

briggdl9@wfu.edu Thu Apr 13 02:28:25 1995

I had always heard that #36 was about Chris Hani. However, I was just
listening to the New Year's show from 93/94 and Dave prefaced the song
by saying it was about Steve Hani. Is this the same person or is Dave
just trashed or I was I wrong? Does anybody know for sure?

CD "TREE" Update

jjgoke@schrodinger Thu Apr 13 03:45:34 1995

CD "TREE"! Sorry I couldn't reply to most of you -- but I got a *lot*
of messages on the subject! Anyway, if you haven't filled out a form
and are interested, *please* do so. I am waiting for the form to get
distributed under the digest format -- I figure I should have another
bout of responses about them (and PLEASE if you fill out the form under
the digest, please, please, please do not include the ENTIRE digest in
your reply!)
and based on my projections of total interest I have begun a second
round of negotiations with a CD maker. Originally he wanted $30 a CD
but that was for 10-30 CDs . . . so I have asked him to consider
dropping the price *substantially*. We'll see. I'll keep you all
informed. Regardless this is *going* to happen, even if it only ends
up being five of us who get the CD, it *is* going to happen, and it will
happen within the next week or two with any luck. Okay, all that aside
here are the most requested songs for the CD (in order):

Lie in Our Graves, #36, Two Step, Granny, True Reflections, So Much
To Say, Seek Up (as an opener), Dancing Nancies, Drive in Drive Out,
Cry Freedom, Best of What's Around, Say Goodbye, Tripping Billies,
Recently, Christmas Song, Watchtower, Angel from Montgomery, Blue Water,
Ants, and Spotlight.

Sorry if I missed a couple, and a couple are probably out of order (I'm
looking at a tally sheet) but hey, it's looking really cool with a lot
of cool suggestions for venues and dates! Don't worry if your song is
at the bottom -- if this goes I'm sure there will be a second CD to
follow shortly after. By the way -- even though this CD will never
be officially labeled (to discourage and pretty much eliminate any chance
of resale) -- I was thinking of changing my reference to the CD from
THE BEST OF DMB VOL. I to something more fitting like, "The Best of What's
Around". Any better suggestions will be taken. Well this post is long
enough, I hope you all continue to support the idea. Catch y'all later!

Charleston

hlantos@cs1.presby.edu Thu Apr 13 03:50:31 1995

ok, now that i have recovered and waded through most of my tests for this
week, i can post about the chas. show. Phenomenal. That's all i can say.

ok, i'll say more....lemme get the bad over with 1st.....the acoustics
sucked....bad echo....but, as someone posted earlier, it ain't easy in a
gymnasium.

Anyway, Best as an opener put everyone in the "best" mood. it was
awesome. i had been at the Blues Festival all day and was kinda beat,
but this song did it for me....put a smile back on my face.

just to clear it up, boyd is the man. He jammed hard in Dancing Nancies
and never lost anyone's undivided attention during his approx. 3 min.
jam. tres impressive.

Dave intro'd Rhyme and Reason as "This is a song about being lost, and
how hard it is to find your way" close to exact words.

the lighting was pretty damn kick-ass. it made the music even more
dramatic....like during "....look up at the sky" when the lights
flashed..... i would've much rather had a more intimate show, too, but
since it was borderline huge, the lights were a cool touch.

of course were cheering and calling for the boys to come back and then
people started to hold up lighters. it wasn't just a few drunk people
doing it, there were flames everywhere...looking around, i thought it was
kinda cool....a tribute, kinda......ok, maybe i took that one a little
too far.

the best part was def no WWYS. i was shocked and pleased.

phenomenal. the best show i've ever seen. permanent smile stuck on my
face, but i didn't care...i felt great. couldn't have been happier,

heather.

anyone who is going to the 5/21 vegas show, please contact moi. tanx.

Hey,

She basically did two sets. The first was acoustic and it was
amazing. I wixsh I knew her music better so I could give you a
setlist or such but I will do my best to get one. I taped the show
and it turned out o.k. My levels were not really adjusted much so it
is not ideal (plus the system there is not great). However, I know
someone else who taped it and I think I might beable to get another
better recording. I will lewt ya'll know. I know she will be at Van

Dave the actor?

tak@acpub.duke.edu Thu Apr 13 04:37:12 1995

Let's get to the real question. Does anyone out there think Dave will be
in any of the skits? IMHO, I think he would be a riot. At all the shows
I've ever been to, he's been quite funny. It would be a shame for SNL to
forego an opportunity to feature someone who's actually talented.

Anyway, my guess is he'll play Ants for sure. The other is a toss up.
Personally, I'd like to see Say Goodbye, but miracles are few and far
between.
Thanks for you thoughts,
Tak

Question for the enlightened...

sctm@vt.edu Thu Apr 13 06:29:38 1995

I have a question for those in minarets land. I have a tape from Austin
Texas, its from the Liberty Lunch dated 12-15-94, the tape sucks because
the audience noise is way to overbearing, apparently its an audience tape
and the taper couldn't get a good position to elimnate the crowd, anyway,
my question is, who is the singer in the middle of the song, #36? It
sounds a lot like Craig Honeycutt from Everything, but the tape sucks and I
can't be certain. So if anyone knows I would appreciate it. Thanks and
email me personally because I don't read minarets anymore.

sakunz@miavx1.muohio.edu
P.S. Courtney is cool, but Jennifer Anniston is the shit in my opinion....
I am predicting that during Courtney's monologue at the beginning, Dave is
going to come jumping out, bouncing as always. THen he will give her the
biggest, fattest kiss ever given on TV. Then he will be finished and let go
and she will fall down on her back. Then Dave will start telling jokes. He'll
tell one about cheese then one about hating cigars, and we will no longer be
able to see Dave sing songs, as he will be a bigger draw as a comedian. Then
all the minareters will be critiquing his comedy shows on the Comedy Channel
instead of his concerts. Wow, I really went off there. Enough. Later

you minaretters really zuck sometimes. i am here to defend the helpless

does not mean it sucks, as is frequently asserted on this merciless net.
it's kinda like stairway to heaven; it also is played far too often by
those who don't know the finer points of zeppelin, but it still is a
amazing song. like in the case of pot, repetition does not spoil the

XTRA TIK TO GREENVILLE!

Hello you crazy minareters-
Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I am still recovering from a crazy weekend
at Duke. I have never been so exhausted after a weekend before, but I guess I
deserve it, but that is a whole different story thAt I probably shouldn't tell
on this net, but anyway...........a friend of mine here at the great
Hampden-Sydney College just called me up and offered me a ticket to the
Greenville show tomorrow night. Problem is that I am already going and have a
ticket. He asked if I would post something on the net so I am posting. No
spoons, no flames, no Z100 shit, just a nice offer of a ticket to Greenville
and all it will cost you is face value. If interested call (804)223-6640 and
ask for Carter. Carter is a cool guy who you should be very polite to because
he is offering you a ticket. Offer him anything you want (i.e. spoons,
bagbys, your first born, acts of S&M, etc.) and no more money than face value.
Get the picture.
Well, now I be UPS man for my roommate and take a monster package to his
roommate. How do I get sucked into this shit.
If anyone goes to UT @ Austin or UVermont @ Burlington and want to tell me cool
things about those schools, plerase do because I am interested.

question of whether or not DMB will be playing at HORDE, but last week at

for sure.

Sympathy for the devil

bjmoon@indy.net Fri Apr 14 00:59:40 1995

I was rereading the FAQ sheet and I noticed that dmb has covered sympathy
for the devil before. Though not a stones fan, this is one of my favorite
songs and i feel it's one of those songs that sounds good no matter who
plays it (i.e. watchtower). I would really love to hear dave play it,
seeing what he did w/ watchtower. So if anybody's got a tape with this on it
could they please notify me.
thanks,
brian

Re: wwys, zeppelin and a good bowl

shardin@uahcs2.cs.uah.edu Fri Apr 14 01:25:08 1995

you minaretters really zuck sometimes. i am here to defend the helpless
victim that is "what would you say." just because it gets played a lot
does not mean it sucks, as is frequently asserted on this merciless net.
it's kinda like stairway to heaven; it also is played far too often by
those who don't know the finer points of zeppelin, but it still is a
amazing song. like in the case of pot, repetition does not spoil the
sensation. appreciate wwys for what it is as a song, don't persecute it
for rca's, mtv's, and your local dj's mistakes.

Here! Here! If you truly love DMD music, then you should enjoy it all,
regardless of whether it's played on the radio a lot and loved by lots of
people who aren't necessarily real fans. They must have liked the song or
else they wouldn't have put it on the album. So, why can't you like it?
BTW, can anybody post the tourdates and if DMB might be coming down south
anytime? Thanks.

Ain't Modern Technology Grand?

srubin@haverford.edu Fri Apr 14 03:41:29 1995

"Heeeey you guuuuuyyyyys!!"
(Who can name the source of that quote?)
I was just watching/listening to the Everything concert over the Internet.
It was cool and all that stuff. I think it could be the wave of the
future, if the computer people can make more smoovvve (with a v!). How was
the rest of the concert, live?

This week has been a pretty good week. I did not have much work and I got
to go mountain biking on tuesday night. For those of you who have never
been riding at night, it kicks ass. Quite the rush and all that other
stuff.

I have seen my fair share of disgruntled posts on Minarets in the past
couple of weeks. Things about Z100 and other crap. Just a reminder, some
people just suck, you have to try not to get annoyed with them. It is not
their fault, they were born that way. Some stuff, you have to ignore.
There are a lot of cool people out there too, for example, Keith.

Hi Keith, did you get the tapes?

Keith is the man, thank him for the rare dave tree if you get the chance.
But any way, another thing that people have been complaining about recently
is WWYS. "It's played a whole bunch and we are sick of it and stuff, blah,
blah, blah . . ." The main problem is that only one version is played all

There are many great live versions of WWYS, where everyone has a solo jam,
even Stefan for you bass lovers. Because I am in a good mood, I am opening
another "trivia for tapes" offer. The category this time is college

Who founded the Kappa Alpha (KA) fraternity?

The first two people who respond with the correct answer get a copy of the
11/3/92 "Election Day" Concert (for blanks and postage), it has a kick ass
WWYS on it. Previous winners of my offers are not eligible (sorry Keith).
If you would like to answer, do so by personal email. If you are a KA
brother, tell me what school you go to.

I am looking forward to hearing from y'all. Take a guess, if the spirit
moves you, drop me a line, we can talk about anything, DMB, modern
technology, or mountain biking. Good Luck.

Later
Seth

Richmond bands and some Dave content

dowell@vt.edu Fri Apr 14 05:19:22 1995

Hello all in minarets land. This would be my first posting. I have been a
lurker for the past couple of months. I was wondering if any of y'all out
there have heard of House of Freaks or Gutterball. House of Freaks is an
excellent band from Richmond that has been around for a while. I was
wondering if there is anyone out there that shares my interest in this great
band.
he hopes everyone will stick around for a band from Richmond called the
Waller(?) Family. Does anyone know anything about this band or have any
tapes of them? I would like to learn more about them and would really like
to hear what they sound like.
my favorite with Granny as a close second. I am in digested form and
sometimes don't get a chance to read all of the postings. I saw someone
defending WWYS and saying that no one on minarets likes the song or wants to
see Dave perform it. I think WWYS is an excellent song, however I think it
is overplayed and too many people only know DMB by that song. I think most
people on minarets would rather see Dave perform something other than WWYS
when they get exposure on House of Blues, or David Letterman, or SNL, or
whatever because everyone has already heard WWYS, and if they played some
older stuff such as Two Step, Granny, So Much to Say, Drive In/Drive Out,
everyone could be exposed to another aspect of DMB, a part that is not so
overplayed. But I don't think that most minaretters feel that WWYS is not
any good simply because it is overplayed. They would just like to hear some
of DMB other stuff which is also really great.
tape the 12-2-93 show from right here in Blacksburg, VA for the first 3
people that respond to me personally via e-mail. It is a great show with
great sound quality, and I don't think too many people have it. It takes
two 90's and has some good filler including Heathcliff's, Spotlight, and a
few other goodies.
Family and also if anyone shares my interest in House of Freaks and Gutterball.

Tapers: Greenville on 4/14

cdeluci@hubcap.clemson.edu Fri Apr 14 05:35:13 1995

Hey all...
OK, I am going to commit an internet and Minarets sin here...I'm
grovelling for a show before it even takes place...but I think it's for a
worthy cause...
I'm an actor, and I'm in a show that opend Tuesday. We have dress
rehearsals all weekend. I had to give up my trip home to the Wilmington
area for Easter, as well as losing out on tickets to the Wilmington show
and the Greenville show. To make matters worse, I was going to go to
Greenville with this girl I am really interested in...(yeah I know I am
pathetic). Anyway, I was going to stroll down to the tapers section and
get someone's address so I could get a copy of this show ASAP to surprise
her with before we left next month to go home for the summer. Thing is,
since I'm not going, I can't. So, if anyone out there is getting a SBD
patch tomorrow night, I'd put your name on Minrets forever in lights if
you could help me out by promising to dub me a copy of your board at your
earliest convenience. We'll make a sweet deal. Yeah, I know, it's a
pathetic grovel, but I swear it's 100% true.

MTV News Report

Ischaefer@aol.com Fri Apr 14 13:59:16 1995

Last night while channel surfing I came upon MTV, and at that moment they
were broadcasting MTV News with the extremely "cool and hip" Kurt Loder.
The story that was on the board at that time had a large picture of Mr. David
Matthews with a large caption which read "NO HIV" or "NOT HIV +". SOmething
to that effect. I hope this puts to rest of all of those assanine rumors
that Dave has HIV, and how it is affecting his touring. (A friend of mine
heard Dave canceeled a show (I forgot which one) because he was too sick to
preform. We all know it is BS b/c Dave canceeled to prepare for his
preformance tomorrow night on SNL.
I wanted to post this piece of news because I can finally saw that I actually
witnessed a Dave-HIV related story. Not my sister's boyfriend's cousin from
Guatamela. I actually saw it. I hope everyone else did. Thanks for your
attention.
Long live Dave and the Boys.

Honestly,

misc dave stuff

cmf29@columbia.edu Fri Apr 14 14:32:59 1995

ok kids, here's my two cents...well, maybe three cents.

with regards to snl, i think he'll play either wwys or ants and one
other song. i would love to hear warehouse. :)

i agree with the guy who posted about wwys. just because they play
it on the radio doesn't mean it sucks. it really is a good song.
after all, how could any of dave's songs not be good??????
but, i do not agree with the guy who said that if you love the band,
you have to love all their stuff. you don't have to love it all,
you're just crazy if you don't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

let's have no more talk about dave and the boys "selling out" ok?
they're not selling out if they're only continuing to make the music
that we love! just because they're now making some big money doing
it does not mean that they have sold out!!!!!!!!! i agree with jen
giroux! we have to learn to share with all the other children, even
the ones we don't like too much. (ie the ones that sing along with wwys
at the shows and stand there like cattle when they play angel fr
montgomery)

and finally, sorry about posting my letter to Z100 a few days ago. i
thought you all would be interested, but i have been flamed by so many
people since then that i would like to apologize once and for all and
ask everyone to stop sending me those firey messages.

until next week. same bat time, same bat channel! -caroline

MTV News Report Part II

Ischaefer@aol.com Fri Apr 14 14:41:47 1995

I took the liberty of going to MTV online, the service that MTV runs here on
AOL. There is a whole section for MTV news. I went to yesterday's news
reports and found this.

"Hi, I'm Kurt Loder with MTV News. Rumors circulating on the Internet that
Dave Matthews -- the leader of the Dave Matthews Band -- is HIV positive were
denied by the group's manager on
Wednesday, in an online statement. The bottom line -- Dave Matthews is not
infected with HIV. Matthews and his band appear this weekend on Saturday
Night Live"

There you go.
Our fearless "leader" is not HIV +. As a result of these two segments, there
should never be another word about this subject.

Graciously,

WWYS (my opinion)

cdeluci@hubcap.clemson.edu Fri Apr 14 14:49:06 1995

Well, I like the song. A lot. And I never get sick of hearing it.
Sure, it's better live. Sure, it can jam out a lot harder than what's on
UTTAD. But I love grooving to that song as I drive my car, or sit in my
room, or do just about anything!
It seems to me, even though DMB hasn't been around as long as Phish, that
WWYS is going to become just like Sample in a Jar. Sample is a great
song and it has, IMNSHO, Trey Anastasio's best studio solo ever. Many
Phish fans don't like the song, though, because it attracted a bunch of
trendy teenyboppers and new fans, and so they rag on it all the time,
even though it's a great song. The thing is, the key word in the
sentence above is "trendy"...and when the trend is over, we true fans
will still be left :)
Craig (who predicts WWYS and Trippin Billies on SNL and __loves__
Courtney Cox)

Some thoughts on WWYS

j280a_5@CVAX.IPFW.INDIANA.EDU Fri Apr 14 15:14:22 1995

Hey y'all! About WWYS, I don't think that the mojority of the people
who are complaining because they dislike the song. Think of DMB as a
beautiful sculpture and WWYS as one view of the work, or a 2D photo.
Most sculpture is meant to be walked around and looked at from all sides.
A unique feature is revealed with each different step. With the over-play
of WWYS, the general public gets a very one-sided view (or listening
experience, I gues you could say). DMB is so dynamic; it should be
listened to "from all sides" to get a true picture.

Yea, I've heard of House of Freaks and Gutterball. They (House
of Freaks) played their final concert about a month ago at the
Flood Zone. What's your favorite album? I would have to say
that mine is their latest, although I didn't like it at first
it has grown on me.

Oh, I'm NOT the Bryan Harvey from the band, although I get
phone calls from people thinking I am a great deal. The Bryan
Harvey from the band lives in Church Hill, and I live in
Midlothian. Big difference.

Someone mentions House of Freaks, who I haven't listened to in a long
time, and I get all excited about 'em again, and now I find out that they
played their last show.... So much for timing.

I love What Would You Say.

Having it played a lot is not sellng out. Just like Sample in a Jar
wasn't selling out just cos it got popular. Now, If Phish had let
Snapple use the song in commercials, _that_, I think, would have been
selling out. As would be a commercial that used WWYS, say like, "What
would you say, what would you say...to a nice cold "Bud Light"...

or something to that effect...

Don't think we have to worry about that one.

Looking forward to celebrating Easter with DMB,
