"Gotta Travel On" has its origin in British folk music. It was adapted by Paul Clayton and recorded in 1958 by Billy Grammer, then released as a single a year later and it sold over a million copies and launched Grammer's career. It was most famously covered by Bob Dylan for his 1970 album Self Portrait
It has only been played once and it closed a Dave solo show. Neil Young
sat in as a guest for the performance at the 25th Anniversary Bridge Gala in San Francisco on 10.14.11
. Perhaps not coincidentally, Grammer had passed away just two months earlier at the age of 85.
As of early 2012, no recording of the performance is in circulation.
